Koni STR.T

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC1

Just a word of caution regarding the Koni STR.T shocks. Firstly, they are a great improvement in both ride and handling. However when fitted they do lower the car a little, about 10-15mm I’d say. Which if you’ve already got -30mm lowering springs can make a difference. Especially if using aftermarket wheels, (ET42 not 55).
In my case it does all fit, (just), handles beautifully,
(thanks Dave for the great setup) and looks really good too. I am scratching my lovely red IL motorsport X brace more often though
Just a heads up really as I didn’t see anything about the Konis having a different spring seat height to standard, just that “they are particularly suitable to cars with lowering springs.”
All the best

Interesting. The NC1 starts off a bit jacked up and many peeps including myself pop on 30mm lowering springs just to get the car looking right. The STR.T are often sold with springs as a kit. I wonder what length they are?
For interest. When I fitted 30mm lowering springs to my NC1 the rear springs fitted almost without needing spring compressors. I do get some banging from the NS rear on rough ground.
I fancy Koni Live, which are a bit more sohisticated than the STR.T but are not as unforgiving as their Sport. Available in the US since late ‘23 but not in the UK so far as I can tell

Fitted the STR to my Mk1 about 12 years ago. I did it since the ancient OEM stuff was goosed. The kit was cheap…less than £400.00 all in from Demon Tweaks. It was awful, it seem the shocks ( non adjustable but tweakable once before fitting) were out of synch with the coils. Dreadful rebound and compression habits. SWMBO would not go in it…did not blame her. I could not wait to get rid of the coils, and got a set of new of OEM springs which luckliy turned out to be a fairly good match with the shocks. I’d avoid if you value your spine! Reads to me they have maybe altered the specs. Still got springs in my garage mint and boxed but I canny be bothered flogginmg them so they will be binned in my final Mx5/ Roadster clear out" in the Spring.

Apparently the STR.T are fixed at the softest setting of the adjustable Sport range. Which I have to say works really well with the IL / Eibach springs, certainly for roads use. An extra 26mm track maybe helps also with the new wheels but not as noticeable as the shock upgrade was.
