Now I might have this wrong and apologies if I have for wasting everybody’s time, I have been told that they have brought out or maybe bringing out new legislation where cars over a certain age will fail their MOT if they have LED lights fitted. Has anybody else heard of this. Would be interested to know. Get out in that sunny weather everybody
I saw this last week.
MOT changes: Classic car owners could fail after dramatic changes to LED headlight rules | Express.co.uk
cars that have led or gas discharge bulbs in headlight fittings designed for incandescent bulbs will fail an mot
quote below from mot manual
Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.
I have LED lights on my Eunos but they are DOT marked and MOT compliant as they are sealed units and not separate bulbs.
They dip straight down so can be used in Europe with no issues. Very good beam pattern and Bright. DRL and indicators can be wired in if wanted.
This isnt new they have just changed the start date
pre 86 cars now cant be failed for led or hid lamps in halogen units
All other vehicles remain the same they fail
Only way it can be retro fitted is with a headlamp unit thats meant to have a hid or led fitted
Like the ones above or an OEM hid or Led unit for the particular vehicle .
