Laquer taken off

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _mk3 2007
  2. I’m based near: __chelmsford Essex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __
I’ve tried polishing headlamps with grit that fits on a drill. Taped around headlamps and managed to scuff the surrounding area. Guess I’ve taken the lacquer off. Not much but enough to annoy me. It screams out at me. I’m hopeless at diy. Is it an easy enough job. Would a garage be bothered. Any advice please

To come. Pouring down here :cloud_with_rain:

Just spray some lacquer on it? Tape/paper off the lights and anywhere else you don’t want to it to go, get a rattle-can of lacquer. Give it a light misting with the can NOT TOO CLOSE (I see so many people spray-painting from 3 inches away when they should be 10), let it dry, then light misting again, let it dry. Then take some fine sandpaper, at least 1000 grit, give it a quick shimmy with a soft block to take off any dimples or orange peel, dust off (use tack-cloth if in a rush) then wet the sandpaper and give it a polish. Then use cutting compound (same stuff you did your headlights with) to give it that super-smooth shine and help it blend it in to the lacquer around it.

Would a garage be bothered? Do you mean to do the work or concerned with the state of the car?

If it is only a small patch a touch in stick from Mazda will come with a small pot of clear coat and can grab applicators on amazon for cheap…,
