“Touching up”, “rubbing”, what a strange conversation…
I used Ultimate Compound by Meguiar’s. There is “rubbing compound” (the red stuff 999to5 speaks of) but I think it’s more of a heavy duty product and I was after taking things more cautiously due to the cars paint being 14 years old so went with the Meguiar’s.
My whole car got etched with salt, the compound removes a microscopic layer of the lacquer taking contaminants with it and was the only thing that removed the salt from the lacquer.

Yes, rubbing compound is very aggressive , much more so than something like T Cut.
It doesn’t produce a shine, it is used to blend and flatten paint, rather like fine wet and dry.
