I’m coming to realise that I am possibly the least decisive person alive. However, as I am usually skint when I save up to buy a new bit for my 5 it has to be just right. I’m buying a Larini exhaust for my Mk1, I’ve decided that much, but I can’t decide whether to go for the 73mm or 100mm exit. I know exhausts is a topic which has been covered many times before, but I can’t find the info I’m looking for by searching. Would anyone who has either size on a Mk 1 be able to post a picture of the back of the car so I can see what they look like fitted? Just want to be able to compare a picture or two of each. Thanks for any help!
Hi Alex, if you have a look on the Dandycars website there is a photo of each size and a video clip of the sound. www.dandycars.com
Cheers,
Rob
Hi Rob, I has a look at those just before I posted. They are taken at an angle that concentrates on the exhaust and don’t really give you a great idea of how they look with the rest of the back of the car, thanks though. Was hoping someone would already have some useful pics online, maybe in their ‘Reader’s Rides’ post that they could point me to?
If you want to have a look at one up close i have a larini with 76mm tail on my Mk1. I live in Cheddar if that helps. There was some talk that they were looking at stopping production for mx5’s?
Is this it? http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/13523/78897.aspx#78897
Looks perfect too me, maybe I’ll go for that then. They have removed the 5 option for their website, but I emailed them and they said they were still available.
I have the 100mm single on my RS Limited. Try this link to the MX5 Owner’s Group on Facebook; there’s two images of my car with the 100mm exhaust fitted:
I have the 76mm one on my other MX5 and I think I can safely say the 100mm one looks much better IMHO. 100mm sounds HUGE but doesn’t look too big when fitted, and fits the bumper cutout perfectly. They both sound exactly the same.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, that’s really helpful. I’ve placed my order now, thanks again guys!
I have a Larini on my MK3 and love it. BUT … just looked at the Larini website and Mazda are no longer listed. You could try contacting them but it looks like they have, as threatened, pulled out.
Regards
Jim
Which size did you order then?
When I spoke to them they said they are phasing them out because the demand for them has dropped. They asked me to spread the word amongst the OC that they are still currently taking orders, but they won’t be for much longer. If you want one, now would be the time to order. I went for the 76mm in the end, as I’m trying to keep the car fairly standard, I just wanted a bit more noise. Build time of 1-2 weeks apparently, although I have heard from others that they can take a good while before they make a batch, so who knows…
Let me know how you get on with fitting. I couldn’t get mine to sit in the middle of the cut out in the bumper so am taking it up to infinity in Bristol to have a look at. Possible that the tail is not welded in the correct place. I had to wait 3 months for mine, hope you get yours quicker.
Gaz
Total arse ache. Have you tried putting a jubillee clip round the hanger and tightening it to pull it in that direction?
Have had it on and off to check with the old system, but when you look at the tail peice its welded on seperate and looks to be off set. it doesn’t really matter but i’m a bit of a fussy old git and it anoyes me when i look at it. OCD i think…
That would annoy me too tbh. Surely just having to open this thread says something about my own OCD tendancies…
Has it come yet. I took mine to infinity exhausts in Yate today to sort this tail pipe out. The guys did a grand job. Cut the tail off, shorted it by about and inch then welded it back on. Straight this time. Looks gert lush…just need to concur my tin worm now. Sills again…
Heard nothing yet… Glad to hear you got yours sorted. I hope mine arrives before I go home for Easter or there will be noone here to take the delivery for a month…
Arrived yesterday. Won’t be able to get it fitted for a while though. Looks good. The box it arrived in had got pretty trshed somewhere, but the exhaust had plenty of bubble wrap on it.
Easy enough to fit as long as the old one comes off ok. my problem was the tail pipe was not welded on straight. If you want a hand to put it on give me a shout, happy to help.
