I’ll see you all at the Spring Rally again and Silverstone again and the National again as long as Mallory Park is the 12/13 Sept.
£30 seems reasonable value to me in a special year for a special full two day event.[^] Me and 14,000 others today happily paid £16, plus fuel, plus food to watch 90 minutes of s***e between Coventry and Kidderminster in the Cup. Get in the real world you so called car " enthusiasts".
Quote from above link: There’s a limit of 100 cars on the track and the banquet hall is only so big, so don’t delay!
I hope that aint at one time[:|] Might as well drive round the M25.
and the only reason its free admission for spectators is because the track is sponsored by Mazda who as part of the deal can hold some of their own events and display their products at major racing events.
The MCA, and its Mazda-owned successor, folded years ago. There is no US Miata Club, instead there are a litany of regional organisations, some more organised than others. The Laguna Seca event has been organised by PR Motorsports, who has obviously leveraged industry contacts for support. It is obviously a for-profit event. It also benefits from coverage by Forever MX5, who have now quit sending me any issues (I got 2 for a years subscription…). $35 for those who just want to turn up.
A lot of Miatas in the US, but the US hasn’t been the biggest market for a while now, at around 10,000 cars a year; about the same size as the UK in sales. Germany or Japan are probably the biggest markets now; the EU, as a single market, is the biggest market. Curiously, Mazda Europe have been quiet, after their fanfare in 2001 about creating a single European MX5 Community (which seems to have gotten as far as mx-5.com). No regular Mazda Europe events at Hockenheim that they promised.
Maybe they are waiting until 2014, which might be the launch year for the Mk4/ND (if they ever make it).
But will there be any MX5s racing at Mallory on 12/13 Sept - according to info I’ve seen Ma5daracing (who are at Brands Hatch on 12/13 Sept) are buying MaX5racing (who were to be at Mallory on 13 Sept) - so will everyone be racing at Mallory Park that weekend or Brands Hatch? Are the organisers of 15/20 aware of this possible c…-up? Or do they have info about the buyout that isn’t public knowledge yet? How can we celebrate at a race event if the racing is in another part of the country?
I’m with John - £30 is good value and I’ll be at the Spring, Silverstone and National Rallies, enjoying the similarities and differences between them all [:D]
I think you are getting a bargain - this is what the US national event / ‘Miata Events of Texas’ Team are doing for $300 a person!!! On top of that you have to pay for hotel accommodation there (hotel has reduced rates for early registration), and fuel to and from Grapevine in Texas, a 2400 mile round trip so hotel accommodation will be needed along the way as well. All in all, a pricey few days!
The $300 registration rate per person is set to increase on February 1, 2009!
What is included in the $300?
Non-stop opportunities for fun
A chance to win an unique-to-the-event version of the face-lifted 2010 MX-5 Miata
big reception on Friday with food, dinner on Saturday and Sunday night banquet
Access to all driving events including track events, fun runs, and parades
Access to at least three social hours, probably four, but are still in the planning stages
A chance to win an unique-to-the-event version of the face-lifted 2010 MX-5 Miata
Fabulous door prizes
Goody bags
Collector-t-shirt
Access to a minimum of 30,000 sq feet of air conditioned exhibit space for vendors (you must have event registration badge to get to the vendor alley)
A chance to win an unique-to-the-event version of the face-lifted 2010 MX-5 Miata
Full access to experience track events in a non-intimidating venue
Full access to experience track events without having to deal with novices
Unlimited (time permitting) access to track events
Rallies with prizes awarded
Multiple photo opportunities
The priceless opportunity for the camaraderie of your fellow Miata lovers
A chance to win an unique-to-the-event version of the face-lifted 2010 MX-5 Miata
Everyone must be registered to attend any event, or enter any venue, including the exhibit hall or Texas Motor Speedway. This is required by the venues and insurance. There are no exceptions.
Not being a track diva, I think $300 for 3 mass-catered meals, a T-shirt, a goody bag and a raffle is a bit of a rip off!
You all might not be aware that the Silvestone Classic this year will be run by Goose Communications in Godalming .They are working very hard with Peter Jakeways to ensure the MX-5 OC participation will be even better than last year .Silverstone has everything anybody wants why do we have to go reinventing the wheel at considerable expence at a track with little facilites . The Classic will have so much to do you wont see everthing in three days . Entry prices for club partisipation will be released very soon .As previosly mentioned you can purchase a ticke for 1-2 or 3 days .
Because a “club event” held at SIlverstone will involve members turning up on anyone of 3 days, seeing the poor sap that is left in the tent to get people to park and then buggering off untill it is time to go home.
Please everyone that what’s to go to Silverstone, go, have fun, enjoy it. It is a wonderfully good show, but it will in no way be a club event.
OK so unless I have missed something somewhere - do we presume that 15/20 event at Mallory will not include MX5 racing as the Ma5da race calender will be followed by the series and not the MaX5 race calender? ie do we presume that MX5s will be racing at Brands Hatch on 12/13th Sept as per the Ma5da 2009 race calender?
Would some of the sponsorship for the event also be lacking if sponsors are likely to be where the racing and TV coverage are?
A simple yes, no, or don’t know yet from the organising committee would be nice.
