Leak from top rubber door seals

Hi, new to the forum, but need some advice, hope I am posting in the right place.

I just recently purchased an MX-5 1.8s MK2.5 and when it rains I am noticing that drops of water are leaking from the top rubber door seals from the breaks in the rubber on the passenger side. I believe that rain water is getting into the resevoir of the rubber seals and then when I am driving the water is moving and coming out of the breaks in the rubber seal, hope this makes sense. The seals between the window and rubber seem very good and there are no water leaks and I can not see where the water is getting into the resevoir.

It is not an awful lot of water, but it is very annoying, I was thinking of firstly adjusting the roof catch on the passenger side as it doesn’t feel as tight as the drivers side catch, is there any documentation floating around to do this? If that fails then is there any way to adjust the rubber seals? I am completely open to suggestions here and any help will be appreciated.

Cheers

A low-tech approach worked for me.  Open the door, grab the seals and push them together as hard as you can to close up the gap.

Thanks for the reply and tip, will give it a go.

I’ve got exactly the same issue, but on the drivers side.  It’s quite annoying getting a wet leg in the morning as opening and closing the door gets the drops moving.  I noticed while driving that the seal is damp but not dripping, I think it might be time for new roof seals but they’re pricey as anything.  My tension on the clip was pretty far in, so I’ve slacked it off a bit in the hope it lets the seals loosen off and fit better together (long long longshot I know!).  Passenger side is dry as a bone and I’m struggling for ideas.

Is it hard top time, has anyone else had this issue and solved it with seals? or was it a new roof job?

Thanks

Hi

I have a similar situation on the drivers side. At first I thought it was due to the window falling short of the top of its travel but having had this sorted, I still get water in when I open the door and close it.

I find it helps if when the doors open, I dry the area of the seals where water is and when I get in the car as the seals are now dry, water isn’t as easily encourage in.

My vinyl hood is in not bad condition -no rips or tares so I don’t think its the hood. All of the seals however have had their shapes altered a tad due to the amount of times the door/window has been closed. -In my case if replacing the seals (£ [:(] ) or stuffing foam inside them to make them more plumb would be good.

Another tip I’ve read is to use vaseline over the rubber seals however this could damage them so either use something water-based or like this - its what I use on the hood.
