Leaking rear shock, time to replace, but what?

Hello,

Just some advice in regards to a leak rearing shock on the driver side, looks to be quite moist, hence leaking. Spotted on a MOT but passed, passenger side slightly moist, so possible need to replace.

What do you suggest as a recommendation?

Replace rear shocks with OEM unit, keeping original springs?

Go aftermarket with Bilstein, KYBs etc?

Or coilovers? Which could be overkill.

Car is a weekend car, not necessarily a daily driver. Never taken to the track, although it would be fun to try eventually.

Wouldn’t mind lowering it to make it look better, but I don’t want to ruin the ride for show. Is there such thing as a healthy compromise between looks, performance and comfort?

Any suggestions, or recommendations?

PS> Saw there was a group buy of sorts for the MiesterR Zeta S or something on nutz, but again is that overkill for the road?

If I do go for coilovers, any recommendations?
Also, how much am I looking at, purchased, fitted and setup correctly?

May have to start hunting in the classifieds or eBay

Over a £1k is a little steep, but I guess they sorted it all out for you and you seem happy with their service.

I might send them an email, see what they can do and offer.

Just posted this on the other thread, but what do you guys think?

I guys just a quick query, would a set or rear shocks from a Mark 1, fit on a Mark 2.5?

A friend of a friend has a old set lying around and said I could have them if I could use them, what do you think?

No mk2.5 wont fit to mk1 as the heights will be all wrong. We have some low mileage mk2.5 original shocks here .They are perfectly good and you wont have to spend 1k although the coilovers can be nice etc ,especially the better brands, but not TA Technics (rubbish for road use).If your happy with the present set up on your car just get set Eibach lowering springs (30mm ,not 40mm)and go from there

Hi Robert, how low is the mileage on the 2.5 shocks? Both front and rears? Standard OEM or the sport Bilstein?

i might be interested, how much and where are you based?

i will also consider your advice and keep an eye out for those springs as well.

30mm is the ideal amount, why is 40mm too low?
