Hi, installed some LED bulbs on my 1990 NA and…noticed a very light glow when in the door-position.
Done some research and as some adviced sanded the contacts on the door switches…without result. Some point out that an eventual alarm system might be the cause. I have one but it’s not in use anymore (will dismantle it one day…) so not sure if that might be the cause.
Any advice here? Would like to keep them as the bright lightning is a hugue iprovement.
Tried swapping them 180 degrees? Ive seen led bulbs that are not +/- sensitive.
Thx . Strange…but as it’s a small and costless thing to do i will give it a try. The Led bulbs are from Jass performance.
Tried it today (the switch) and …still have that (very) light glow in the "door "position.
Have you got any accessories fitted? To confirm, you get the glow with the switch in the DOOR position with the doors closed.
Indeed, the glow is only in the door position. No accessories fitted (beside radio and gauges which are on another line.)
Which model MX-5 is it?
Sorry Robbie, was very busy lately; it’s a 1990 NA 1.6.
LED bulbs will continue to work or at least glow, with very little current running through them, usually due to leakage from associated electronics or switches. Check that all the earth contacts are clean on all associated circuits and, if you can any residual current on that circuit. It maybe that the alarm \ anti theft device is passing something through that circuit and illuminating the led.
Thanks, cleaned the door switches next step is (something i planned to do a while ago…) dismanteling my old alarm completely and then cheking al the “circuit-related” contacts. Still have to find out which ones they are.
