Left water drain tube rubber flap maybe damaged ...

Good evening all… Can I ask your experience please , my left water drain tube I think the rubber flap has been pushed the opposite direction

as the guy unblocked the drain with the trombone brush but from the bottom of the car and not from the top …

as a result I have a lot of wind noise through the cabin … Does anyone please know what I should do ?should I put the brush from the top again and try to push it down ?or do I need to change the whole pipe? Am guessing it comes with the rubber flap?

i have looked on the mx5 parts and I cannot find it …or how much it costs …the noise is too much in the cabin , is anyone got any ideas please?

? I answered this yesterday, is this a new post or is this forum going haywire?

Hi gerryn
Yes you did replayed but you wasn’t sure if can’t get replacement…I just put a new post because I have asked couple of Mazda garages
and they don’t know if or how or if replaced …I thought maybe someone has change them …if the flap gets damaged then what ? I can’t even find the part on mx5 parts
Am sorry to put a new post but Mazda garages Guildford Beaconsfield are useless …

Too late now (they shut at 5, and closed for the week end) but try Autolink UK as I suggested. He imports cars and bits from Japan, so there’s a chance he might have one. Ask for Andrew.

As - I think - someone else replied about changing the downpipe, he’s right, it’s inside the body, and I imagine virtually impossible to replace. I hope it’s not been displaced?

Only suggestion, immediately, I can think of if the noise is bothering you, stick some sort of bung in the top end, next to the soft top hinge. Not a good choice in our present weather, but it’s the only way out for silence.

Ok…thank you so much gerryn , I will ring them on Monday morning … See what they say …
Thanks again ??

The drain flaps are just basically just a circular piece of rubber about 1"(I think) from the bottom of the drainpipe which exits just in front of the rear wheels, easier to see if you can get the car up in the air or I you know someone with an endoscope.

You can see the flaps from the end of the pipe under the car, think they’re about 3/4" on maybe 1" diameter.

You might be lucky and push the flap back into position if you trombone from top to bottom(pull it out of the bottom not back up)
Must be loads of posts and some pictures on here if you do a search.

You can replace them but think they might come already fitted to the pipe which I think is in 2 halves(ie 4 pieces for both sides)also I think there was an updated version sometime since 2005.Replacement is doable but time consuming, you need to remove most of the trim behind the seats to get access.

I’ve been thinking for some time about how to replace these or for another solution, and wondered if it was feasable to fit some sort of baffle between the pipe ends and the wheels to eliminate some or all of the noise.

Hoping to have my car or see another MX on ramps on 6/3 at ‘liftonramps’ open day in MK so will investigate further then I hope.

Anyone any other ideas? Does the MK4 have these drains/flaps or have they been modified?

Hello Woodsie ,
Thank you for your post am thinking of bying the side clip on fabric panels to protect the water drain from the
rubbish going in them that would sort a big problem of blocked drains …thank you again I wonder if mk4
has same issues with the flaps on the drains .

I have a similar issue as a result of damaged drain tube flaps and am thinking of investing in this kit from MX5 Parts…
http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/hood-drain-modification-mk3-p-3352.html

All of the parts are available separately from the stealers and I believe the bottom valves are really all that is required but this kit looks quite complete

Mazda service bulletin 09-046-10, ( http://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/09-046-10.pdf), details the part numbers below… And the MX5 Parts page details the different filters for Type A and B cars based on chassi number

NEY1-R1-782 - Filter RH - 1x - Type A
NEY1-R1-792 - Filter LH - 1x - Type A
NE51-R1-784E - Valve Lower - 2x - Type A
NE51-R1-789E - Valve Upper - 2x - Type A
NH18-R1-782 - Foam Filter - 2x - Type A
