Lidl goodness for the 5!

Right, went in Lidl yesterday(Friday) and as you may well know that place is filled with weird stuff like welding machines and steam generators alongside the ususal milk and bread rolls<img src=“http://mx5oc.co.uk/forum/emoticons/emotion-1.gif” alt=Smile">

Well saw a few good things for the 5; a 2kg trolley jack stand 15 sovs, a 12v car battery charger for 12 sovs, a device to test the strength of battery/signal from spark plugs etc… was 5 sovs. And a big box of shiny silver hose clamps for 2 quid. Bargains to be had he he!

Trolly jack sounds interesting… might go investigate…
Edit - is that a trolly jack or just stands???

i had ajack from there as well.

all good quality stuff as well

Just the jack no stands

I think my Eunos’s battery is on the way out, so does anyone know what the Lidl battery would be like?

Would it be OK in a Eunos or do I need some special vented thing? The current battery is not connected up to any vent pipes I noticed yesterday, although it appears to be a sealed maintenance free unit with no vent pipes to connect to anyway.

I didn`t know Lidl sold batteries but there battery charger is good value…cost me £10 IIRC

The battery you need is available from MX5parts

Hi.  Beware of powering up the spark plugs un-earthed as this can wreck the coils. A gel battery is preferable and not much more money. Trickle charger is best for these.  A 2Kg trolley jack wouldn’t be able to jack-up a bag of sugar!!  Did you mean 2 ton?

He he my mistakeEmbarrassed

It would have to be a very small bag of sugar!

Yes the jack is a 2 tonner sorry, works superbly, tried it out on my car and it’s a great bit of kit. Went back to Aldi yesterday and got one of the battery chargers for 12 quid, again excellent quality for the price, auto shut off, trickle function etc…very good value for money and i bet Halford’s across the road aren’t very chuffed hehe!

Yeah I bet they’re not pleased. That’s a good price.

It’s nice to be able to jack the whole rear of the car for certain jobs, although you’d want axle stands (and wheel chocks) before you crawl under it!!   To jack on the side of the car using the rails, some people fashion a bar with a groove in it to spread the load across a bit. Many do it with a good solid piece of wood (with the groove).   Jacking an MX5 too high on one side can actually break certain antiroll-bars so that’s something to watch out for.  To change my oil I once jacked the car on the suspension arm which I think now is probably not the right way to do it.     I’ll be looking out for my nearest Lidl store.
