Eunos that has been sat with its engine out for a couple of months, put it back in with 10w 40, first time it started ok with a fuel leak. Came back today to sort the leak and started it with the loudest ticking noise I’ve ever heard, faster with rpm and no sign of going even after running for 30mins.
As an aside, I do like the Flyin’ Miata video on lifter tick, it wasn’t till I saw the video that I knew about Mazdas’ official stance on lifter tick, that is, if the tick goes away within 10 minutes it’s all good and normal as far as they’re concerned.
I was definitely contemplating tearing apart the head If I wasn’t desperate to get it on the road for the summer. It was longer than 10mins for sure but as an unknown service history 34 year year old engine I’m surprised it takes the beating I give it most years Fully expecting it to give up the ghost soon but until then…
