I’m reluctantly selling my much-loved MX-5. It is one of a 250 run limited edition that first introduced the MX-5 to the UK (not a Eunos) and has a very special spec… British Racing Green. Wooden steering wheel, handbrake and gear stick knob. Tan leather interior. Electric windows (rare in the early models, I believe). It’s an H reg and has done 97,000 miles but has been off the road and kept in a garage for the last five years (since birth of my son). It features a plaque on the dashboard showing it’s heritage - it is number 92 of 250. I fitted a dark brown mohair hood shortly before taking it off the road. The car does need some work… mostly cosmetic but also some welding work is needed to the chassis. Before taking it off the road I was given a rough quote of around £500 to get this done. One of the wing mirrors has also fallen off (I have the mirror). And it needs a new battery as it’s not accepting charge. But after several years in the garage the car started very easily and the engine sounds good to me. It comes with a hardtop - the lining is loose but otherwise the top is in good condition. I’m honestly not sure what I should be asking for this car because of the rarity value… so happy to have a discussion and consider offers. I’m based in Bath. Nice cars those limited editions - good luck with the sale.

Technically, its not one of the first MX5s sold in the UK (they went on sale in March 1990).
From the last MOT report, who ever told you that it would cost £500 to get all that welding to a decent standard was being a bit light. I would think its £1000 worth of work. High CO, so probably a new cat for £100 or so, brakes likely need an overhaul. Needs new tyres, because of their age. Another £500 for misc. cosmetics. Based on that, if these are worth £4-4500, this car, as is, around £1750-2000, but a buyer will have to tow the car away, narrowing your market.
It is a condition of ads on the forum that an asking price is provided
GLWTS.
Thanks very much for your comments… you may well be right on the scope of work needed. If I get interest in the car I’ll definitely try to provide as many details as I can. Thanks again.
Thanks very much for this - that’s really helpful. And yes, they are lovely cars. The one you sent the link for is certainly in better condition than mine but it gives me a very useful comparison so thanks again.
