Lingering Waxoyl smell...

My car was Waxoyled 2 months ago, and I’ve driven maybe 800 miles in it since then. Recently, I 've made a couple of journeys with the hood up (  ) and ,although I’ve enjoyed the driving very much, I’ve felt a little queasy on arrival. There is a noticeable ‘oily’ odour in and around the car, which I assume is caused by the Waxoyl, so I wonder if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon post-waxoyling, and if so, how long the odour lasts.?

P.S. I’ve checked for oil leaks and can’t detect any exhaust blowing.

Had mine done about 12 months ago and at first the smell was pretty bad.

However it does get better over time but it did take about 6 months before I didn’t notice it.

It did encourage roof down driving whenever it was not raining. Just wrap up and put the heater on.

It does fade away after time

You could try something like Lavender essential oil, a few drops in some water, in a bowl. Leave that in the car overnight. Works better in warmer weather, maybe start with hot water. But as the water evaporates, with the lavender, it permeates the carpets and seats (if they’re cloth) to replace the oil smell you currently have. Obviously if you don’t like lavender you can choose an alternative. Lemon balm might cover the smell.

I tend to waxoil mine when I get bored during the winter months. There’s always a nook or cranny that might have been missed.

I’m not keen of the smell either. I do find however, that it subsides after just a few weeks.

Thank you all for your replies.

I’ve put a Neutrador into the car to see what that can do - they work well in the house. No doubt, the fact that I garage the car doesn’t help the speed of smell dissipation, and also using leather restorer has added a bit of extra body to the bouquet!

Meanwhile, I must look for my hat with the ear flaps and chin strap.
