Links to forum posts don't work [Resolved]

Hi, when trying to promote club events on social media, the links to the froum just open a page showing the title of the forum post, and not the contents. This is a terrible user experience for members clicking a link and not getting any of the i formation they need. An example link is

Norfolk Five's Club Stand at Ink and Engines 2025 (Sunday 6th July 2025) and when clicked outside of the forum just show the image attached (inside the forum the link works).

No matter what you click on, all you get in the forum title. We are trying to attract more people to the club, and this issue is stopping people learning about what the club is about. Could this be fixed please, as its a poor UI/UX.

Are you using this ‘link’ option at the bottom of your initial post?

Using that loads directly into the thread.

Yes, I have tried the link option at the bottom of the post, and I have tried copying the URL from the browser, both fail in the same way.

Try it yourself, copy the link and paste it into a new browser window. I can do a screen recording if there is a way to send a video.

Odd, I have just tried on my phone and get the behaviour you describe.

However on the PC with different browsers it works as expected.

I’ll do some digging though will not be immediately.

Thats excellent, thank you. I know it will take some time to find the bug. With most of the population having phones rather than desktops/laptops, it is hampering promotion of events and the club.

Thanks again.

I have the same bug if I re-visit a thread on my mobile browser. The only way to view the content is to select ‘Desktop Site’ view. I’d presumed it was something to do with the multiple cookie/ad blockers I have on Vivaldi mobile, but it seems it’s not just me. (And, thinking about it, this behaviour doesn’t exist on the other forums Iuse that are based on this platform.)

I also use other Discourse based forums and don’t see this. I’m sure it’s not always been like this here too. Will be tomorrow before I can have a proper investigate.

Just tried it on my phone and it works if the browser is set to the desktop site option, so it must be a mobile optimisation problem.

I would have never have come across this as I don’t use my phone to access the site, I find using a laptop much nicer.

Do a lot of people use there phone for accessing the site?

I’ve noticed that a few times when clicking in to threads on my phone from google search results, if I tell the browser to display the desktop version then it works ok but putting it back to mobile causes all the content to vanish again.

Agreed it works on desktop mode on phone, but that makes it much harder to navigate and not every user knows to do that. With 96% of adults having a smart phone, I pointed this out as it is an issue as people have not been able to get from social media promotions to the forum posts for an event tomorrow, as they where struggling to find details of the meeting point. While I have sent them screen shots etc. It was not ideal.

Its great to know it is being looked at.

Thank you so much for investigating this.

Notice this issue too.
If I google something and a forum reference comes up and I click on it, I only get the title of the post.
I simply make a note of the title of what I’m interested in and log in to the OC forum and search for the title ….

Yep, its not great for people not use to having to do work arounds. But good news it that it is being investigated.

I’ve seen this as well, and it includes clicking a link from an email notification, about a new PM arriving for example.

I hadn’t gotten around to raising it as an issue, so thanks for reminding me :+1:t3:

We’ve identified an area to investigate related to theme customisation and asked the tech team to take a look.

This means it will be Monday at the earliest and possibly longer to achieve a resolution.

I’ll advise on any status updates.

Yes, it’s frustrating for the user too!
I do eventually find the post but it shouldn’t be complicated!

Please advise if you still encounter difficulties.

Many thanks to the Tech Team for their support with this.

Tried google searching for a few random MX5 topics on my phone and clicking into any search results from the forum and they’ve all loaded properly so I’d say it’s fixed.

Working again for me too.

There has been a display change on mobile view this evening, for whatever change/tweak has taken place.

Thanks for sorting.
