Hi all,
The other day I was de-icing the windscreen of my imported Mk3 roadster, with the engine running and got out to scrape some of the ice off the windows. I closed the door behind me, and imagine my horror when the car locked itself! I was away from home, staying at a hotel in Kettering whilst doing a course for work. I had my handbag and coursework now locked in the car! Luckily, it was a small, friendly hotel and the owner came out to help this damsel in distress. We decided that we would have to break the drivers quaterlight window so that I could reach through to grab the keys, but it wouldn’t break (thank goodness!!). Eventually, he decided to drive me to the course venue. So off we went, leaving my car with the engine still running - I was in a right state, I can tell you!
The hotel owner called out a locksmith, who managed to ‘break into’ my car, costing me £70 - a lot cheaper than a new window would have been, but still a dent in the pocket.
Has this happened to anyone else on here? If so, is it a feature of the immobiliser? I will make sure that I have the spare key in my suitcase in future!
