Locking fuel flap

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __nd
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __
it’s only started doing it recently every time I unlock the car the fuel filler flap unlocks and pops open I have to keep going round to shut it. it’s getting a bit annoying now any ideals

If it works in the same way as others, say the NC lid then I’d say it sounds pretty normal.
Just re-read your post, I thought they were manually operated with a pull lever?
Could be incorrect, never owned an ND.

Sounds like the catch mechanism isn’t locking. With it open, press the plunger and see if it locks in.

it’s definitely locking with the car locked the fuel flap won’t open but as soon as i unlock the door the fuel flap pops open

The lock and the release are separate systems. You’re not pressing it while it’s locked are you? This will unlatch it so it pops open when the lock releases.

When the car’s unlocked, there isn’t a catch to hold it shut. It just rests on the pusher. To open it, you push and the ‘pusher’ unlatches itself and pushes the flap up.

When you push the door back down, the pusher should latch in the retracted position and the flap just stays put. If it doesn’t, it sounds as if the hinge/spring set up is at fault. You can test the pusher by leaving the door open and prodding the pusher with your finger.

If you just slip a credit card under the flap and lift it, when the car is unlocked, you’ll see what I mean. about there being no catch.

And Robbie’s right, if you (or somebody else?) pushes the flap when the car’s locked, it unlatches the pusher. Only the locking pin then holds the door shut, and when you unlock, the unlatched pusher does its job.

problem solved your absolutely right about pushing the flap with the car locked. then unlock the car and it pops open my mistake brilliant forum this for sorting out these little problems
