It’s not obvious from the previous pic of my late Triumph Spit BUT
The two thin lines at the back of the pic are the stereo and CB radio long aerials …duh

It suites the car upto the NC.
When I was a spotty sixteen I had a Berkeley three wheeler. I fitted just such an aerial despite it having no radio.
CB radio (illegal AM of course) needed a nice long transceiver. Did you try to make the petrol guage go backwards at the PFS by using it while you were filling up?
10/10
Reminds me of the late 70s when everybody was driving around with 6-foot CB aerials. ‘Breaker breaker! Ten four good buddy!’
I love my old school 19 year old and still working electric retractable aerial on my NBFL, it just wouldn’t look right with anything else.
I still remember when some big fancy luxury cars had a wee retractable aerial on both corners so the driver had a reference point for reversing, I thought that was pretty cool stuff back then. Waaay cooler than a reversing camera
Mine has the leccy version and never had any thoughts to swap; I like the way it gets tucked away. Now, if I had the non retractable type then I would probably be tempted to change it to a stubby version, just to protect eyes and possible damage.
That is a sweet looking spit @Bullit2005, twin aerial…
i miss the auto retractable on our mk2.5. Turning the ignition and seeing it in tune with the vehicle waking up is proper cool. The permanent one on the mk1 while more vulnerable, also fits the overall design of the motor perfectly. It wobbles with life after parking up.
I like the look of the retro static aerial if the car is kept original, however I find it does flex the top of the actual panel a little which is a bit concerning
CB Radio and Long Aerials…
1978-1981 served as police officer so my ‘Handle’ was ‘Blue Badger’
As Terry M1 says it was probably inspired by the 1978 Movie ‘Convoy’
Bloke I was dating at the time convinced me to get it and not only did I think the ‘fishing line’ aerial looked cool but being able to chat with lorry drivers on a journey felt mega cool …although not quite as cool as the Convoy movie itself
We got it when it became legal 1981 [Crumbs…never knew it could make the petrol gauge go backwards]
Well…long story short…loved the Spit more than the bloke so I kept the Spit and he kept the CB Radio
But fun times back in my youth [I was young ‘Grasshopper’] and after the restrictions of being police felt quite rebellious at the time
Cant believe a thread about car aerials kicked up 49 responses. Have you lot nothing better to do!

It’s about long aerials - a niche subject.
Can’t believe you managed to find the time to respond to a topic you’re not interested in

‘Nothing better to do !’
Sure…expect we do …but a visit to the Forum always cheers me up, gives me a laugh or I learn something about the MX-5 or Life, the Universe and Everything
Before getting on with…
Tasks such as …Newbie State Pensioner - working out whether HMRC have sent me the correct tax codes ?
And how to let Sky know that I’m more than a little miffed regarding their ‘In service contract changes’ when on-line contact has failed so far
Visit to the Forum can set me up for day and help me keep things in perspective when me brain feels like scrambled eggs
Whoa, steady on lads. Only meant as a bit of fun

Get online and register with HMRC. A bit of a pia but quite user friendly once you’re on and all the info you need. It took them a couple of months last year after April 05 to pay me a tax refund.
Admittedly you should have got a better reception on a thread about aerials.
The shark fin was done via photoshop, either removed or added. Identical dynamic elements (flapping shirt, clouds) in both pics give it away. Also quite a lot of tweaking to the sky in order to prevent the car from becoming a silhouette - you can see the ghosting around headrests.
I remember having the ‘illegal’ CB radio hidden in the glove box with a disguised roof aerial on my Renault 14TS. (Can anyone remember what they were called, DV/DB something with some numbers seems to come to mind.)
The owner of the paper shop on Hall Lane Bradford tipped me off about a police officer enquiring about me and my aerial so I went underground for a few months.
Now Mods knew a thing or two about outlandish aerial, unfortunately that was not me as I had a Triumph Tina!!!
Was it a CB/DB40…? I can’t recall tbh, there was one on my Dad’s little fishing boat for ‘emergencies’… the Triumph Tina, twist and go! i think it looks fantastic, and dangerously low for corners? i was a bit later with a honda cub ‘step through’ 90 and it was lethal in the wet. Got written off on a straight road peering over the shoulder - no long term harm done…
