I’ve owned my Mk2 for 16 of its 22 years and have never replaced the battery. Recently, a sluggishness to start when out and about (even though it seemed to start ok when in my garage) made me think it was probably time to get a new one.
When the old one came out, the date stamp on it (left hand bottom corner of pic.) seems to read Feb 1998 which, to me at least, ties in with this being the original battery as my car was first registered in April 1998.
Twenty-Two years. Is that a record?

I would complain, post a moan on some internet social site; it seems it’s the thing to do these days . . .
I’d give it a wee trickle condition charge tbh. Might just need a wee massage so to speak.
Our 2002 Mk2.5 Panasonic is OEM and still bang on.
They don’t make them like that anymore.
