Long nose, short nose, how knows?

Heya,

After a Long absence* I’m in the process of putting my engine back together following a cambelt change and I’m not sure which torque value to use on my crack bolt.

All the evidence points too a long nose, but the cars vin and registered date lead me to believe it should be a short nose. Obviously this is something I don’t want o flip a coin on.

The car is an imported Eunos with a recorded “First use date” of December 31st 1991 from the MoT site and given a “H” reg.

I’m having trouble getting the images to a sensible forum post size, so here is a link to the imgur  album: http://imgur.com/a/HEP1j

Hope someone has a better idea than I do.

  • Mk2 became uneconomical to repair; replaced with a Mk1 which needed some TLC; I broke myself forcing a stop to work on the car; moved house; broke cambelt while moving car to new house; car sat collecting dust while house was being decorated/renovated.

After a huge amount of bad luck, I can assure you that your car has a long nose crank.

We have an ‘H’ reg(1991) with a long nose crank, red(SU) as well. The giveaway is the 8 slot pulley - short nose engines have a four slot pulley.

Yes, all the physical evidence pointed me towards long nose, it was just the numbers which didn’t seem to line up.

I’ll go ahead and torque it down to 157-165nm then.

Thanks!
