Looking at an NA, hopefully spending more time with you guys

Hi, in the process of looking at a ‘95 R-Ltd.

It’s still in prep but have been told the seats are good but not seen any pictures. Bizarrely out of all the things that could need doing I really do not want to be re trimming. Mainly due to the price point of the car!

Very much an armchair enthusiast! I know how things work but have little hands on experience of spannering,

I’m guessing if behind the sills feels straight without disassembling and using a scope you just have to make a judgement on internal condition.

Is there a way to see the cambelt without removing bits?

It’s all been changed.

I do know the Nardi shifter and handbrake handle have gone walkabout. It does have the 15in BBS wheels but unfortunately the refurbishment of those has powder coated the entire wheel. I’ve had a quote of £600 to re-instate the polished lip

Best insurance quotes for me have been
Dean & Groves
AIB

If all goes well then I’ll be a paid up member if bought.

I’m based in N Yorks.
Will be at SCITP in May if the weather suits.

Good luck with your purchase. Hope it all works out.

I don’t believe you’d be able to see the cam belt without removing covers.

The missing bits and pieces like steering wheel and gear knob are likely to come up for sale now and again in the future if you want to restore your car to original spec.

Let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Guy

Surely an armchair enthusiast would love to do re-trimming

Unfortunately there’s no way to see the cambelt without removing the cam cover, or possibly jiggling out one of the three front cambelt covers, but the possibility of those having rusted bolts that then snap could be quite high (and then the issue of getting them back together since they slot into each other).

On the plus side, a non-interference engine breaking its’ cambelt will only leave you stranded, not with a damaged engine in stock configuration.

Good luck on the NA build!
I think the 15" BBS are the best wheels for the NA
