- My model of MX-5 is: NBFL

- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Accelerator cable
I have a a bit of a loose/floppy accelerator pedal on my 1.6 mk2.5. It seems to depress a few mm, before it moves or bites, if that makes sense?
Can I tighten it up or will I need a new cable?
Thanks
I had a Mk1 and Mk2, took the slack up on the other end of the cable at the throttle body. Just left a tiny slackness though.

Thanks. I’ll tighten it up with just a mm or 2. As Its more more like 7-8 mm of slackness.
This is not a common problem; the throttle cable is not prone to issue, whether that be stretch or other damage, such that slack is created.
There is adjustment at the throttle body end as Mick mentions but I would spend a little time investigating where this slack has been generated.

Thanks.
I’ve not noticed it before, even on the drive back from Kent to Wales.
It’s done 56k and it’s been driven more in the last two weeks, since I’ve owned it, then it has in the last 6 months!
I’ll check the pedal, and follow the cable to the throttle housing for any wear or damage.
Is there anything else I should look at?
Yes, inspect the cable, all grommets, sheaths, etc. Somewhere along the way there will be wear/damage that has created the slack and unlikely to be the cable itself.

Appreciate the replies. I’ll look into this and report back.
May be a few days, but I will. Nothing worse than a thread with no ending!
Quick update.
Checked the cable from pedal to throttle and couldn’t see any frays or damage along the cable route.
I’m going to tighten up the cable just a touch and monitor it from there.
