Low Pressure Turbo Kit

I’m toying with the idea of fitting a low pressure turbo kit. Slight drawback in that I know stuff all about it. Have any members had one fitted previously or are able to offer suggestions as to suppliers, price, drawbacks etc etc

Thanks in advance

Define ‘low pressure’ over at mx5nutz there are more knowledgeable bods than you might find here (although a number of us frequent both forums)

Anyway for sort of the 5Psi type levels of boost you are best off with either a GREDDY kit (which are hard to come by these days and ok, but when you want to up the boost then you end up having to dump 90% of the components)

Current flavour of the month on the low pressure stuff is the BEGi S system, supplied by MX5Mad in the UK, it’s a really good system with high quality of components that mean you don’t have to dump most of it when you upgrade (in fact the only thing you really have to get rid of is the crossover pipe and then you can route thru an Intercooler when you want to up the power) also comes with the divorced wastegate design on the downpipe for quicker spoolup

Then up from that you have the standard BEGi kits, also from mx5mad

oh and there are also Flyin Miata kits available but they are quite pricey, but still good…originally designed by Corky Bell (who then went off to form his own company Bell EnGineering or BEGi) so the design of th eFM kits had to change slightly…anyway basically the list on turbo’s goes as follows

£500-800 = used greddy

£1200 = new BEGi S

£2500+ = full BEGi street kit

£2500+ = FM kits

the above exclude timing and fuel management. If your looking at low power go for either the Greddy E-Manage Blue, or the Megasquirt PnP, anything higher then the PnP is still good for it, the EMB can become troublesome. There are also higher powered ECU’s out there that you may want to look at such as Adaptronic/Motec/Emerald K3 etc etc

Anyway got to pop off now this forums colours are giving me a headache…ttfn!

I’m running a 500 quid Greddy kit with no fuel of spark management other than the stuff in the kit.
I’ve not felt the need to upgrade from my 155bhpish, so any limitations of the set up I have are entirely hidden from me.

If I had the money I’d bolt on something bigger, cleverer and more impressive sounding.
