Lowering Mx5

hello to all !!

first thanks Again for all yr posts , been to Mazda in Newbury today and they told me the reason why the car is higher on the right front and a little bit higher on the left is because I ve changed only one spring the right one and not both . Now to bring the car level they have suggested two options …

  1. to change both front

  2. to change all four

I think after all this I would like to change all four !! Now can I ask yr experience on this if I lower it 30mm all four Eibach and it sais vorn and hinten, how my car would feel when driving on road bumps etc…would it be hard firm?because at the moment on bumps is soft and smooth , Mazda it will look very sporty and nice but on bumps maybe a bit firm …how does it feel when you drive yrs ?mazda also suggested eibach 20mm pro line springs . i told them I will get them and they can do the fitting they quote me £ 288,00 for all 4 incl vat , what do you think ?

many thanks

On my mk2.5 I am on eibach 30mm lowering springs, no real difference in feel over bumps on main roads (not really any stiffer). Feels much better in the corners, but have to be a little careful over speed bumps. But nothing too bad.

As for cost I don’t know and I don’t have experience on that. But it does not sound too bad to me.

Hi Alex 16,

Had my mk3 lowered, pretty hard ride - my wife now refuses to go anywhere in it, either as driver or passenger. You will have to decide if that’s agood or bad thing!

Hi Ian and Trevor
Thank u for yr replays I just ordered the set eibach 30mm ??
all 4 !! Looking forward putting them on ???

Ouch! Most others who have lowered their cars say that the ride is hardly affected. Whose lowering kit did you use?

Is it true that I need to ring my insurance company to say that I have lowered the springs by 30mm?and also don’t you think Mazda’s quote just to fit them they asking £ 288.00?..

I think the price is too much !!

Yes you need to notify your insurance company, some insurance companies will not cover lowered suspension.

AVIVA have covered my last three MX5’s all with lowered suspension.

Note - after lowering you will need a full 4 wheel alignment check.

Yes, you do need to inform the insurance company. But you are lowering the car and not the springs. You may find the fitting of them to be cheaper if you went to a smaller independent garage rather thn a main dealer.

Thank you for yr posts let’s see , I think Mazda charges far too much I think about it .

I put spax 30mm lowering springs on mine and it made no difference to the ride on bumps etc but looks so much better without the massive gap between the arches and wheels.

I used the Mazdaspeed springs. Not the cheapest, but no loss of ride quality at all, felt much better after fitting

Good morning to all !!
I just rang my insurance to tell them how much will be or if will be an extra charge for lowering the springs 30 mm and they said they won’t insured me or they can try but will be very expensive they told me I will struggle to find an insurance company … I have AA AXA , how everyone is lowering the car and I can’t ???

They are lying to you if they say you will struggle ti find an insurance company, just spewing shiyte to try and keep you as a customer.

There are many companies who have no issue insuring lowered cars.

Good choice on the Eibachs. I’ve used them on three different cars (not mazda) and none of them lost any ride comfort from lowering.

What a load of cobblers.
30mm Mazda Speed springs.
IL Motorsport exhaust.
After market alloys.
Plenty extra bits.
£155.90p fully comp…e-sure.

Thank you all for yr posts …am still not sure what to do though have to think about it a bit more .

Maybe try Direct Line? The increase was minimal.

I have Eibach’s on my NB. To be fair, it took a while to get used to it. It’s a bit more ‘choppy’ over some road surfaces at speed, but the gains far outweigh any negatives. Looks much better. Cornering and braking is much improved. Speed bumps taken correctly aren’t a problem either. Do it. You won’t regret it.

Good morning thank you for yr post I ll try them , see what they say , eibach is a good made ??

Ring around other insurers for a quote and tell them that the car is lowered, I doubt anyone will refuse you.
