Lowering the soft top in cold weather

I have an MX-5 with a new vinyl soft top. It will not fold completely if the ambient temperature is below 11 degrees (this is also stated in the User Manual). However, I have just seen a similar MX-5 with the soft top lowered in an ambient temperature of 4 degrees. Is an alternative hood fabric available?

So called Mohair (polyester and synthetic rubber) is what the majority of tops are made from now and these are less likely to be damaged than vinyl in lower temperatures.

A nice tip is to get the roof warm via the car’s heater, before putting it down - means not all of your drive is roofless, but at least some of it can be!

When you say most roofs are made using synthetic mohair today, is that true for the older mohair roofs? I have mohair on my NA. I thought it was angora goat hair.
