LSD and Rear Brakes

Despite a lot of info to the contrary on the web, my 1.8 Nevada has LSD.

So, I was careful to bu the correct rear brake pads.

I have a stuck OSR caliper, so time for more shopping…

Very few places seem to recognise the fact that cars with LSD have different brakes.

Hmmm.

So, can anyone explain WHY the LSD cars have different brakes and HOW they are different ?

Mike in Hants

sorry

So you are saying only the MK2.5 with LSD has the large brakes??

Do not come on to a forum with a little bit of knowledge make a statement that you cannot back up then ask for information as you do not understand what you are talking about.

You have a MK2.5 MX5.

There are two sets of brakes for that car and either set can be fitted to cars with LSD’s.

The difference in the brakes is found by measuring the diameter of the discs and the ones on the back are either 251mm diameter and these are the standard brakes or they are 276mm on the back and these are known as the big brakes. The fronts are 251mm standard and 271mm big brakes

The pads, discs, calipers and brake hoses are different between the standard and big brakes.

So is that the difference?
Bigger disks ?
This would certainly explain why the pads and calipers are different, although the dimensions of the pads are almost identical.

Mike

Hi Mike and Happy Christmas everyone

It’s only a guess but perhaps the bigger brakes go with the lsd as they are “sports” items but keep in mind that a previous owner may have changed the brakes.

The Apec catalogue is useful to check options and dimensions across models, with drawings of the pads etc, tick the boxes and click “compare selected parts”,

Seriously, ■■■!

As Mr Angry said above, there are two sizes of brakes possible, pads are not dependent on LSD’s. However, within the bigger rear brakes, there are two differing backing plate styles for the pad, both of which are acceptable and both do the same job.

On NB facelift cars, I’ve found that cars with LSD all have the big brakes but I don’t think that all cars with the big brakes have LSD’s.

Er, exactly what statement have I made that I cannot back up ???

Everything I wrote is a pure statement of fact, plus a question for which I wished to know the answer.

I am sorry if that has offended you, but I stupidly thought that this is what the forum is for !

It’s no wonder sometimes that people get turned off by this forum with totally moronic statements like this!!!

I’m happy Mr Grumpy has been taken to task, it’s permitted attitudes like this that on weighing up whether to renew my membership recently , my initial decision was not to but I am now reconsidering it.

Hmm…

Allegedly over moderate - get criticised for it

Allegedly under moderate - get criticised for it…

I called my local factors as I have a warped front disc and he asked me what size discs were fitted, I’ve yet to check.  Reading this I now see the 2 different size discs.

Re the LSD according to the specs mine has a torsen I think ?.  What are the differences please?.

“m) Forum or thread bombing”

I looked it up, I get to learn something everyday.Laughing

Wonder if I will be offered a blind fold after saying that. - no an edit though per the rules pointed out above…
