M2.5 Fog Lights nightmare

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2.5
  2. I’m based near: South Wales
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Fog Lights

I am struggling to find the correct bulbs for my front fog lights, I am cc’ing too the end of a year long strip and rebuild, and somewhere along the way I have lost a fog light bulb. I have purchased H11 and 9005’s and neither fit.

Hopefully someone else has been through this and has seen these bills before.

Hmm, that bulb looks to have different tabs from H11, maybe its HB4 (9006).

Note they only go in one way up because one of the three tabs is wider.

The H8 and H11 seem to have metal tab connectors, neither of which seem to fit unfortunately, I may take the bumper off the off after work to have a better look, it’s very hard to get in there with the lowered suspension

Agreed.

Try looking at the Az pictures for this HB4

Sorry previous reply was to your first message before the edit. HB3 has a small lug coming down from the top of the connector and my bulb has a long lug coming up from the bottom

Looks close but of course there is no picture of the connector, I’ve tried searching online for that model but get to p many results of other bulbs

Hmm, if you can believe the “Fits your Vehicle” box on Az, it fits a Mk2 MX5.
But that is saying nothing really when one considers how unreliable those website part finders are.
This below is overkill and bad reviews, but has a good picture of the 9006 spec connector

Yeah the lug is the wrong way, I may have to go to my last resort and visit halfords

Does the bulb not pull out of that connector?

A 448 I think.

Yes!!! Buy that man a beer

Now I need to figure out what the holder part is

This looks correct:

Think the bulb is a H1 though

Got one but thanks for the offer.

I’ve got a MK2.5 so I had a look in the handbook for you, it says H11.

I think the fog lights on the 2.5 sport must be different, I purchased some H11’s cos various sites said they would fit but no dice

I’m guessing it’s not an easy job to get them out? The manual says to take it to a dealer for bulb replacement on the fog lights.

After everything I have done to rebuild it…it’s just a case of rotate and pull. I don’t have the plastic splash guards around the front tyres at the moment, and I have lowered it all around which doesn’t help. Once I get the right bulbs it’s jacking it up, taking the wheels off and just slotting them in, I plan to use oversized rivets to mount the splash guards as the replacement plastic push pins are moving around too much

So much hassle for something that doesn’t get used.

The plan is to hook up some DRL’s to the front and back, driving in the dark is pretty hard for me as I have been a diabetic for 40 years I have lost most of the backs of my eyes to laser treatment and 4 operations. Dark is extra dark for me, so I am fitting 10 extra LED drl’s to the front and 10 to the back for reversing. The journey home in the winter is extra dark as I take a mountain lane/road so all the extra light helps a lot. They won’t really be fog lights…they will be led spot lights disguised as fog lights
