Madza 6 Sport diesel

Anybody got a new style 6 sport diesel? I have had a new one for 2 months now and I wonder if anybody else has one?

Good car, fantastic to drive, lots of toys and I’m more than happy with it. However two points not so good. The engine feels a little bit rough and vibrates at low revs and when idling (well it is compared to my last car a new style Mondeo) and I’m struggling to get over 40 miles to the gallon (calculated) while the on-board computer lies and tells me I’m getting 44 mpg.

Anybody else got a Mazda 6 and can comment, or is it just me?

Thanks

Andy

Ive got an 09 2.0 tamura petrol and that avarages 36 on a run, it replaced my 07 mk4 2.0 TDCI tit X mondeo and that would avarage 46 thats when it would actually run

It looks damned good in my opinion & seems quite quick too…

i was, to my shame, overtaked by one yesterday up on brecon beacons (wife was in speed check mode). it don’t half go as well.

Auto Express tested one of these back in March and got 40 mpg out of a 2.2 D engine - and they usually thrash the things. Have a look on their website and you might find the test - it was against a Vauxhall Insignia

Must admit I have noticed that the Sport Luxury model now boasts a 183 bhp engine which looks pretty impressive on paper

I must admit it is tempting to keep puting your foot down and pass things with all those 183 horses under the bonnet. I have only done 3K so far, so hopefully the engine will loosen up a bit and get a couple more MPG. If I get round to it I will drop a picture on. I think the estate looks pretty cool with the sports pack in velocity red. My wife thinks I’m a poser getting it in red to match my MX5, but it is nice seeing them on the drive together. In my humble opinion Cool

Excellent colour choice & at 180 odd bhp it’s no wonder that one flashed past me…Big Smile

I thought I would add a photo of my Mazdas. The Mazda 6 sport is going well with 18K on the clock now. Great fun to drive, but the fuel consumption is worrying at 40 mpg. My last Mondeo averaged 47 and it was a bigger car… I have just taxed the mx5 for the summer, but had to fit new rear springs as one had broken.

Surprised at MPG. I hired a similar Mondeo, and a 2ltr Passat to travel from Stirlingshire to Suffolk, and on both runs both these (excellent) cars returned an astonishing MPG of between 52/54. With the Passat, I fuelled to the neck in Falkirk, got to Honington, and topped up a couple of gallons at Abingdon northbound the next day, getting back to Falkirk with plenty to spare. I could not believe it. Nor could I believe, being a Scot, actually giving back a hired car with more fuel than I received .AngryMarginally, the Passat was the better of the two. DevilDerv being the price it is…it sort of cancels out a lot of the long term financial benefit? Bit like having a petrol doing 33mpg without the John Deere soundtrack.

Mind you, neither of these cars produced anywhere near Mazda bhp…so something has to give?

Worrying thing is the trip computer shows 44/45mpg average. However for work I have to record all fuel purchased and miles travelled. The true mpg is always 4 or 5 below the computer reading. I don’t know if Mazda do this to make you think you are getting better consumption than you actualy are. I have seen quite a few people on forums complaining about the 2.2L Mazda 6 diesel fuel consumption.
