I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Gauges
As most of us are aware the temperature and oil pressure gauges in the MK3 are equivalent to a confectionary based steeping device. I have recently found this company:
They claim that with a little soldering and the lightening of my wallet I can make the original gauges work like the real thing. Has anyone had any experience of these? I’m looking at the one that converts the original gauge so that it works rather than the LCD version which is a little out of kilter with the rest of the car IMHO.
Not exactly making your gauge work “like the real thing”, but removing one factory gauge and fitting an aftermarket digital gauge that looks aftermarket.
Likely a £50 Ebay gauge and £20-30 worth of fittings. He’s saved time on figuring how to wire up a standard aftermarket multifunction gauge plus found one that fits. But it doesn’t sound reversible, but I don’t know if that is important to you. At $199, it got to be using a cheap gauge. How long they last for, and then when they pack up, what are your options, I don’t know.
This does more, though I’m not sure it integrates into the cluster though:
The photos are a little contradictary
But seems more easily reversible, because its picking measurements the car is already making.

I’m referring to the analogue way as mentioned in section 2 which alters the scale of the OEM temp gauge and turns the OEM oil pressure gauge into an actual pressure gauge. I don’t want an extra gauge sticking out on top.
Thanks for linking the thread, that’s where I found it originally
Well no it does have both but the pressure is not a sensor, its a switch that operates at 0.25 bar if I remember correctly. the movement of the gauge in the cluster is controlled by the ecu and mimics what would be the operation of a real pressure gauge. That effectively makes it a useless pretty to look gauge.
The coolant temp gauge is actually a proper thermocouple and the bloke takes the readings and adjusts the scale. There is no oil temp gauge (never was) but there are aftermarket integrated pressure and temp sensors therefore if you fit one you can take the readings.
