Master Key For Remote Central Locking

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently joined the world of MX-5 and what a wonderful world it is! When I bought my car before Christmas, the dealer said the previous owner had the master key and was meant to have dropped it in to him but hadn’t. He suggested I write to him to request the key, which I did. The guy was very helpful and said he’d send the key also letting me know I need to get the exhaust serviced yearly at the same place he had it installed and said he’d look for the receipt to send with the key. When I received his letter, I was quite disappointed as the key is just another spare like the one I already have and no mention of the exhaust and signed by his wife! I now am not sure whether to contact him again! I don’t really know how much it would be to get a new master key or if it’s even possible to use the current system when I haven’t got the original coded key - I haven’t had much to do with cars in the past so really don’t know a whole lot! Any suggestions as to how or where to solve my problem will be gratefully received :o)

How old id the car? may help for some answers.  I have never heard of an exhaust needing servicing before, what make/type is it?

If you have the original documentation with the key numbers then Mazda should be able to get you one, but as you have 2 keys do you need another?

There is no “Master key” with for Mazda’s. Are you thinking of the Red key that Ford’s & Fiat’s have?

Back online at last!  Sorry for delay in replying…  My car was born in 2001 and the exhaust is Powerflo.

I know I have 2 keys and I do sound a bit greedy wanting another but the ones I have there’s no button on them so can’t lock/unlock the car remotely so wondered if I could get one… Thank you for replying :o)

Keyless entry was not on the 1.6 unless it has been retro fitted.
