I bought my 2015 NC2 from a Mazda dealership just under a year ago, so the second-hand car warranty (which is badged as Mazda but provided by Allianz) is due to expire shortly.
I’ve had a renewal quote of £336 (without roadside cover) / £367 (with roadside cover). The car has done 51k miles and has full Mazda main dealer service history.
Normally I would just renew for the peace of mind, but my experience with Allianz has been utterly appalling. They refused a claim (water ingress into high level brake light fitting) in October 2020, which I have challenged, and despite my contacting them repeatedly (by telephone and by email) and also getting Mazda Customer Care involved, they have yet to respond.
Yep, three months and counting to respond to a customer query!!! I’m about to make a formal complaint to the FCA (who regulate Allianz).
Has anybody else had any (good or bad) experiences of trying to deal with Allianz?
Sorry to hear your troubles. I would certainly not consider using Allianz again based on your past experience. I have looked into many insurance/warranty schemes in the past for cars, campervans, central heating boilers etc. and having read the small print have deduced that they are simply not worth the paper they are written on. You are better taking that quoted amount and putting it into a savings account each year to cover the cost in the event something should go wrong.
P.S. Most of these insurance covers will only consider failures due to faulty manufacture/installation and NOT wear and tear. Most failures due to faulty manufacture/installation occur in the first couple of years and are therefore covered by the manufacturers warranty. They will almost certainly attribute failures later in life down to wear and tear and not cover them. They might even refuse to cover items with a known design weakness (early ND gearboxes have caused concern in some circles). Check the small print.
I agree that for “small” claims, they are not great, but they do hopefully give peace of mind for major issues like gearbox/engine failure, as these would be a significant amount to fix. However I am sure that in the small print they would find an exclusion for any claim, so I am not sure. I know that early ND’s had potential gearbox issues, so if the warranty covers that, then it may be worth taking one out. There are alternatives like Warrantywise, but I have no experience of those.
I wouldn’t bother TBH. The mileage isn’t astronomical and it’s an NC which are pretty bulletproof and apart from normal wear & tear items, I doubt you’d need an expensive warranty for anything major.
I had to be recovered by the RAC on Friday because of complete power steering failure on my ford c max. Bought it about 18 months ago with an extended warranty, it goes in on weds to the garage so see how it goes. Reading through the list of things that are excluded from the warranty though doesn’t leave much of the car left!
