Mazda Dealers - Herts/Bucks

I’m not a fan of main dealers on the whole - you never get to speak to the mechanic, so stuff gets lost in translation, and they are expensive.  However using them when the car is in warranty, whilst not strictly obligatory, is the easiest way to keep the warranty intact.  Might also get me some goodwill if the gearbox goes bad out of warranty!

There are four dealers within a reasonable distance, all equally inconvenient for me -

Brayley Milton Keynes

Brayley Harpenden

Lodge (Aylesbury/Bicester)

Milcars Watford

Any experiences, good or bad?  Feel free to PM if you’d rather not go public.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve only tried Brayleys at Harpenden (where I bought our MX-5) but can say that service manager Liam is really helpful and the service ‘service’ (!) is all you’d expect.

I’ve used Milcars for servicing both my Mazdas while I waited (comfy chairs, TV and tea/coffee or water), and in each case they did a reasonable job at a reasonable price in a normal time.  They offered free valeting as well, but I declined the offers because the cars were already immaculate.

Add another dealer to the list - Norton Way, Letchworth

Not too far from the other dealers mentioned and I’ve always been happy with them (as far as anyone is happy with main dealer prices!)

Bought my 2008 NC there, my daughters Mazda 2 and our CX-3 (the latter two have been serviced there from new) and they don’t charge for a litre of screenwash when it’s already full like some garages I won’t mention!

I used Norton Way, Letchworth once many years ago and I had no complaints.

I use EMG Cambridge these days and they offer a big discount on parts and labour. The car has been serviced at Cambridge since 2004 if memory serves me correctly and I’ve no complaints. Makes a nice day out too.

Thanks for those replies.

I might well try EMG, my daughter lives nearby so I can combine missions.

Bit late and not Main Dealers but BBR and APS in Brackley are my goto garages. If you ask them to follow the service information as you have a warranty theyre very helpful to do that.

For feedback, EMG Cambridge has just given me £171.90 before 15% OC discount for a first service.  £27 discount has nearly paid my subs!

At c. £146 it makes the £599 3 year service plan look expensive, even if the second and third services will cost a bit more.

Many thanks again for the replies.

Hi john

I purchased my mark 4 fropm Lodge garage near Aylesbury september 2015 i have dealy with many franchised dealers over my life,i think lodge is a very amazing garage, they are i believe one of the oldest mazda franchises in the country, they really seem to fully understand MX5,there prices seem okay to me,very satis fied,i am shortly hopiong to sell my mark4 for the mark4.5?,and they will def be the garage that get my order,i am so impressed by them i am also considering buying a CX5 from them,i will def give them 5 stars.

All best Simon

Lodge were very good with test drives before I bought last year.  I actually put a holding deposit on a used ND but when I saw it, it wasn’t the car for me.  The car I found was actually at another dealer, unfortunately for Lodge, but I assume they get their share.

They are actually nearer to me than EMG, but Lodge is still 45 minutes each way, and EMG is about a mile from my daughter whom I visit every other week or so.
