Good afternoon. I’m aware this topic has been covered but I couldn’t find a 100% answer so forgive me if I’ve missed it. I’m planning on getting my 2021 1.5 sport lowered with the Mazda kit. I have been quoted £450 plus a yet to be decided amount to sort the headlight aim. I’m only using the car on road and purely want the car to look smarter. Any improvement in handling is a bonus and don’t plan on adding anything else (spacers etc etc). I can see on mx5 parts the eibach pro sport kit is £135.
My question is really are these the identical parts and if so does anyone know anywhere in Norfolk who would be able to fit these and sort headlight aim? Looking at the difference of over £300 I may be able to save a few £££ but am wary of the car still being in warranty.
I have a set of Mazda Sport (as fitted to an ND2 30th anniversary) Bilstein dampers and springs, only been on the car for c5k miles.
Pm me if they’re of interest.
I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think the Mazda factory sport suspension is any lower than the standard suspension, my Launch edition has the sport suspension but didn’t come with the lowering springs just Bilstein dampers.
I ‘think’ the Mazda branded ones are also Eibachs, I put the Eibach ones on my first ND 1.5 and they were good. If you can get someone to fit them it should be relatively straightforward, maybe a couple of hours of labour with the right tools.
Mazda has form with suspension parts from the aftermarket; their Eibach springs will likely not be the same as aftermarket Eibach. eg NC “Mazdaspeed” Eibachs have an extra coil compared to aftermarket Eibachs. The same happened with NA Bilsteins; the Bilsteins fitted by the factory were not the same as what Bilstein supplied to the aftermarket.
The Mazdaspeed parts are developed by Racing Beat for the last few years, I’d imagine Mazda would not want Eibach to be selling the same spring that they paid for the development to the aftermarket.
In the old days, someone would get out a vernier calipers, start measuring wire diameter, coil ID and number of active coils, and calculate the spring rating.
Personally I bought a set of Eibach Pro springs from MX5 parts when they had an offer on, I’m sure I paid around the £130 mark at the time and £100 fitting.
I put them on the black stock dampers on my 1.5 Sport Nav… For the driving I do, I find them to be great, much less body roll and yet still managable over bumps and no troubles with speed bumps.
I also find that it sits at a nice height… Looking at the car I’d say its lowered around 15-20mm but I don’t mind as I didn’t want to slam it…
