I think there may be some misunderstanding regarding the cap modification. This does not fasten the cap to the wheel.The grub screw addition simply locks the cap mechanism, so prevents accidental undoing and reduces the chance of theft. Done carefully it is almost Invisible.

I have after market alloys and Mazda wings center caps which don’t quite clip in properly.
A little dab of silicone (bathroom sealant) job done and much cheaper than new alloys.

Sounds a great idea, can you remove them easily after applying the sealant?

And invisible on that dark wet november evening when faced with a flat tyre.

 

BBS wheel centre theft is somewhat overstated. I suspect most alleged thefts are the wheel centres falling off because the owners don’t want to admit they don’t know how to use the locking tool.
