I would like to hire an MX5 for three weeks starting in Austria but travelling around Italy. Does anyone know if this is possible? Knowledge of any hire firm would be most appreciated.
Try a google search, though no sign that anyone offers an MX5 - apparently considered below the norm, at the side of Ferrari, Mercedes, Porsche, Mclaren, Jaguar and Zonda - to name just a few on offer. Aim appears to be on the side of exotic and luxury. (Epensive). Nothing cheaper.
In three weeks, you could take your own car, do both countries, as well as parts of France, and still get back again. O/K - the channel crossing costs, but at least you aren’t paying profit to anyone for the privilege.
You might consider including the Fiat and/or Abarth 124 Spider in your search. I don’t consider the Fiat to be interchangeable with an MX-5, but a friend of mine was offered one as an alternative to the car he’s asked for recently while in Italy. Sadly he had to turn it down because his and his wife’s luggage wouldn’t go in the boot. I’ll try to find out which firm offered it to him.
If you do manage to book one, you’ll need Matt Monro on the memory stick for crossing the Alps of course.
