Mazda infotainment System randomly drops volume to 0

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _2020 ND2 RF
  2. I’m based near: Surrey
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Mazda infotainment

I’ve had the car for a couple of years and loving it the more and more I use it. I have an annoying issue with the infotainment system which doesn’t happen that often but enough to annoy me. Let’s say 1 in 20 drives this happens.
I’ll be listening to the DAB radio or an old iPod I have connected to the usb port, and the volume will just go off. If it adjust the volume, I can see it’s dropped to 0 (not muted).
Has anyone else has experienced this? I’m using v74.00.311 EU N and wonder if an upgrade might be a solution?

Worth upgrading to the latest version, pm me for details

I have encountered this in my 2019 ND2, can’t remember the software version. From my testing it had something to do with the track on my USB, haven’t had a chance to dig deeper. I have the exact same files on an identical USB in my 2017 ND1 and don’t think I have experienced the behaviour, but again I can’t remember the software version.

Happens on my 2019 ND2, I had it uodated to carplay functionality and the drop to 0 happens every now and then. How can the infotainment be updated to the latest version ?

Mine (2019ND2) does this random volume drop too, and there are spots on the M3 it’s guaranteed!

Another bugbear is it defaults to FM white noise , almost always but not guaranteed, after listening to CarPlay.

aarghh yes

I’ve updated the f/w to the latest and greatest - 74.00.324A. (Many thanks to BlueAgave for providing the files & instructions).

I’ll let you all know if it fixes the issue of the volume dropping to 0 randomly.
I can confirm however that the general response is much faster. That alone was worth the upgrade.

I updated too. Flawlessly. Thanks @BlueAgave !
Not seen the volume drop yet.
Reverting to an untuned FM frequency (after using Carplay as music source and restarting the car without Carplay) is still the coded behavior though

Have you save a FM frequency in favourites?

Yes I do, it’s 4th in a list of 6 fav where the others are DAB.
But it happens that after a carplay session the car restarts without carplay tuned to FM 87.5 where I have no signal. It must be the lowest frequency of the default radio band. Just a sw bug … I wonder if there’s a Mazda bug reporting system

Mine will do that if I take out the usb stick before starting the car, but doesn’t happen like that with Android Auto. So it appears to be how the Mazda system deal with devices removed before restarting. Apple is the work of the devil.
