I have just sold my astra, which means I now have the cash to search for a MX-5! I have my heart set on a euphonic and have already seen one snapped up from under my nose.
I have seen the euphonic below and the price almost seems too good to be true. Also, there are some things on it which I’m sure don’t come as standard and differ from other models.
Rust, rust and rust. At least its a light colour. Any rust spots on the sill area will be rot from the inside. Frankly, if I was buying a Mk2.5, rust will be the main area of concern, and I wouldn’t even care about what spoiler, hoops, wheels were fitted. Buy on condition not spec.
Having had a Euphonic I had a quick look and just thought you ought to be aware, the reason it was called the Euphonic edition was the upgraded sound system they fitted to this model including 100 watt sony speakers to the front, a sony headunit (with a remote control unit, although I never understood why you would want a remote in a two seater!)) and a set of sony speakers in the soundbar behind the seats… WHICH IS MISSING! Basically someone seems to have removed that and replaced it with the rollbars with speaker unit (which are sufficient but not the same quality sound). Other than that, make sure you check the car slips into fifth easily and without a crunch as there were some reports of the diff breaking up inside and subsequent problems with gearboxes etc oh and the wheels are hard to refurbish to original and VERY prone to kerbing so check them and negotiate accordingly!
The 1.8 version came with the option of the spoiler, but also the LSD so is worth buying over the 1.6
