My car has the original multi function NC stereo and I would like to upgrade it to a touch screen stereo which includes apple play and I can connect my iphone to it. I would like it to function with the steering wheel controls.
I went to my local Halfords who said they couldn’t fit a stereo because they could not find the correct facing to go over the heating and fan controls.
Has anyone else managed to find a stereo which will fit the 2007 MX5 mk3 interior? If so where did you go and which stereo did you manage to fit?

Plenty out there to be had, I think they are a standard 7" screen size. Search Dynamic Sounds website for all the bits & pieces you need including the facia fitting kits. You need a pre Facelift kit NC1 for the 2007 and I guess non Bose. The kits will give you steering wheel controls too.
I’ve fitted 2 now, well the same one in different cars.
Thank you for your response.
That looks really smart.
I had looked at Dynamic Sounds. Just not confident about fitting it myself. I’ve never installed a car stereo before and I don’t have a garage so I’ll be doing it on the road. Are they easy to fit? Will I have to take the whole front dash apart?

Really surprised Halfords weren’t able to help you.My local branch were really helpful in fitting a Pioneer unit to my NC.Are there any other branches nearby?

Are you only looking for more features or better sound also?
At the moment I’m just looking for more features. The cd player is broken and the radio isn’t great to be honest. Might look to upgrade the sound later on.

Another vote for Dynamic Sounds here, I just ordered the full kit for my NC2 (Bose version) and fitted it myself. I have done quite a few of my own installs in the past, but this one is pretty easy. Hiding the wiring loom is always the hardest part!
I meant to put this on the other day when you asked…
How to remove the head unit on the NC1. The video is for the LHD it’s very much identical but that security bolt (10mm) he mentioned up on the left side will actually be on the right side for UK cars, so look that side. You may not even have the bolt fitted but take a look anyway.
I would add move the gear stick into 2nd gear and wrap or drape a towel/cloth over it, saves any scratches to new or old head units when removing/refitting. I used to remove the knob completely, it just screws off but cover the bare thread with a cloth.
I don’t bother disconnecting the battery now although I did on my first radio removal/install to be safe.
If you are confident to get this far the rest is just as easy, see how you go.
And I’ll just point out your original head unit you are removing could be coded, so if reinstalling you may need the code. It doesn’t matter if it’s getting dumped as you say it doesn’t work properly but it does if it’s getting reused elsewhere. One way to find out if it’s coded is if it’s written down anywhere in the book pack or another method is dig out your manual and try and enter a new code. It’ll tell you if it has one, if you can input your own straight off it’s never been coded from the off.
My original unit never had a code, so it worked again when I reinstalled it.
Thought I’d mention it as once out some members have asked, now my head unit is asking for a code upon reinstallation???
Probably if you sell it it’s only worth £25 ISH, not many want them only for if they want to put back to OEM or taking an expensive radio out again.
See how you go, more stuff to do if you get this far, like routing cables, microphone and dab aerial. As below…
