mazda mx5 mk3 (2006) Bose speakers issue

Hi,

I have an issue with my MX5 NC Bose hifi system.

There is a distortion in the left speaker(sometiimes the right). I googled and saw it had to do with moist. When it rained or you washed your car the speakers get wet.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this.

When I replace the speakers it needs to be Bose speakers because its 0.5 ohm instead of 4 ohm like most speakers.

Is it maybe better to buy a new hifi?

thanks.

Replacing speakers alone will solve it, make sure the connections are insulated with tape or heat-shrink in the future as well. It won’t absolutely prevent it happening again but should prolong the life of the new speakers. It will need to be Bose speakers, yes. I’m sure some people here may have suggestions for speaker upgrades.

Changing the Bose hi-fi system altogether is quite a large job, from what I’ve read. Would be better to tackle the smaller job first and if worse comes to worse and you need to change the headunit or similar, you’ll have new speakers to work with.

Having removed door cards to sound deaden doors, I found water trapped inside the lip at the bottom of the speakers (mainly off side). I’ve bought some Phonocar Rain Stop backing which I know wont solve your issue but might stop it coming back once the Bose are dried out or replaced.

thanks for your answers/tips
I think I will need to look what the damage is first.
At least something to do for the weekend
