Mazda MX5 NC2

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC2
  2. I’m based near: __Tiptree Essex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Servicing- I have just purchased my first Mazda MX5 and the roof needs a good protector as its looking a ,little worn, I am also eager to get it serviced to make sure the Oil level is correct. The head lights are milky and look like they could do with fixing or being changed. Can anyone recommend a garage local to me?

It’s very easy DIY to check the oil level, aa long aa the car is on level ground. I find the level can be quite different when stone cold, so check it before driving it.

Headlamp polishing kits are available from Meguiar’s, among others.

The roof may just need a good clean and reproof (e.g. Renovo products) but any tears or frayed bits mean budgeting for a replacement.

Is it an easy job to remove the head lights to restore them?

The whole front would need to come off, which is do-able but you need somewhere to rest it (grass or a thick blanket).

You can just mask off the paint and polish in situ.

This video shows the masking whichever actual polishing method you may follow:

I’ve had good results with the Turtle Wax Headlight Restorer Kit.

It comes with abrasive paper pads and a less abrasive cream. The pads are for badly affected lights but I found the cream alone was sufficient to restore my headlights.

Actually any mildly abrasive cream or paste will work on mildly affected lights - I’ve read people saying toothpaste works!

In the kit is a sachet of sealer which is supposed to prevent reocurrence of milkiness but there is only sufficient for one treatment. (While there is enough cream for several treatments.)

It only takes me about 20-30 minutes and I spruce them up once a year. If you have an old back like mine take a chair or stool out with you, it makes the job a lot easier!

Here she is after the latest go:

You can, of course, do it without an electric polisher - it’s just more effort. No risk of overheating, though.

Welcome to forum world, you’ll get every answer you can think of apart from the one you asked the question of.
Just waiting for Keith to rock up now, wiping the brown stains off his nose.

Hi Suzi.
I am just down the road in Wivenhoe and I always take my car to an MX5 specialist in Stadbroke.
Vincent’s number is 01379384046.
Best wishes,
