RX9 or MX5 RF?
I think i just did a little wee.
I hope it doesn’t turn out like last time where they were all “The new rotary! Electric motors are rotary!”
Unsure what this alludes to? Any engine is rotary, even a steam engine. Viz - a means to convert a reaction from a downforce to a rotary output. An electric motor requires batteries, which are half the weight of the vehicle in some cases, while F1 has managed to overcome this problem by using kinetic energy to store power, it can only be used in short bursts as parts of the track length are taken up by braking, which provides the energy needed for those power boosts.
The projected RX9 weighs a tad more than an MX5, so obviously NO electric power is required, anymore than in an MX5. The rotary design is the most efficient means of providing energy in a petrol driven vehicle, it’s lighter, boostable and while it has it’s problems - oil consumption and cooling, plus tip wear, one day it will be more efficient than present rotary powered cars.
However, providing power also uses fuel, as we know if we rev our cars up to redline, so getting 200 bhp out of one section of a rotary shows how much more efficient than getting an average 130 bhp out of four cylinders in an MX5, or 160 bhp in the case of later 2L models. BUT - environmental issues also foresee the end of the fossil fueled engine, petrol, hydrogen or whatever, and sports cars of the future will bear no resemblance at all to what we know and love today, if any are made at all.
It’s also worth pointing out that the need to “Look right, look left and then right again - before crossing the road” will have a lot more importance in the future than it does now. (Thought for tomorrow - - - -)
The red one has something of the TVR about it. Let’s hope it’s more reliable.
Just love rotarys, back in the day I had two RX3s and most recently I restored two Suzuki RE5s, an M model and an A.
Nothing to do with above but the rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from Mars my 1st Bowie album and my fave, just like to say hi ziggy.
If it doesn’t come with a convertible option I’m not interest
The only problem that I have is that IF they decide to build it many years will pass before it becomes available! By then I’ll be too old to get insurance cover for it! Born too late! Blast!
Stupidly large wheels that would get damaged by an acorn on the road (and look very ugly).
They would appear to be the same wheels that ALL manufacturers use on their CONCEPT cars, they must rent them just for that purpose.
