Mazfest Bump

At the 15 20 Rally last year over 1,000 MX-5 attended Mallory Park. At the time it was said that we could have easily broken the world record for the most Mazda cars in procession so this year we thought we thought at Mazda on Track that we would have a go.

Currently the record is held in New Zeeland and stands at 249

I think you would agree this is not a huge number and since the UK’s population is some 58 million more than New Zeeland it is something we should easily be able to do!

To this end we have created MazFest UK to be held on the August bank holiday weekend 28th and 29th at Blyton Park Driving Centre in Lincolnshire.

Essentially this day will be similar to the Mallory day with driving activities on track on the Saturday until mid afternoon when we will begin assembling the cars for the record attempt. There are certain rules to the proceedings. For it to be an official Guinness World Record it has to be verified by a Guinness observer and I am pleased to report that we have got this entered into the Guinness system, which in its self is no mean feat. There can be no more than two car length between cars and all the cars have to travel two miles past a fixed point. Simple really, until you work the distance out, which if it were a single column of cars would be 3.5KM long. We are not however daunted by this and think that after the dismal performance of all our football teams, we should at least try to win something for the British Isles.

The format is that we will have the track events on the Saturday, hopefully break the world record (of course we will) have a band and bar booked for the Saturday night with camping available at Blyton Park and say farewells on the Sunday. Mainly it is set to be a social gathering and ability to have BBQ’s and play a few games etc. We will also be running some competitions with prizes, however we want to make it a bit different from typical so it might be “who can get the most beer in the boot,” “largest tent” or something else suitably social.

Unfortunately we currently have a chicken and egg situation in that the world record attempt gained considerable support on MX5 Nutz however, as is the danger of forums, some people have started saying they don’t want to commit until they know there is going to be a world record, and obviously we can not say there will be a world record unless people commit, so it would be really useful to start getting people to sigh up. I for one would love to be a world record holder, it is not something that is everyday. We will also provide a memento car badge to all those that take part in the record attempt, something that says your car was there.

Naturally there are costs involved, we have to hire the venue but also the charges from Guinness are not small, plus we will need a lot of marshals on the day just for organisation. Entry to Blyton will be £10 per car and £15 to enter the record attempt and camping is £10 per pitch.

This day will be open to all Mazda owners and we do hope to start a regular yearly event to bring the whole Mazda community together and make new friends and find new ways to have fun.
