Oh, and as I fixed the leak on my Aerodeck, Mindy is now tucked up in the car port again away from all the bad weather
Decided that after work today, seeing as it was a lovely sunny afternoon, I’d get Mindy out of the car port and out of her sleeping bag! Been meaning to give her wheels a good cut and polish as they’d become very crappy looking, with brake dust and yellowness. Forgot to get a before pic, but here are the results on the two driver side wheels.
Oh, and Mindy couldn’t wait to try her new garage even though it aint built yet!! But she thought she would try the base for her new crib! ![]()
Shiney shiney wheels!!
Looking forward to getting the garage built so I can get stuck into her and get her bodywork all done. Still needs a goos wash and clay/mop/polish after being in her sleeping bag but suppose she looks not too bad as is.
Well, was MOT day today for Mindy our we mk1. That’s the third we have put her through now and was convinced she’d have a list of fails this time (hasn’t failed since we got her!). She’s surprised us once again! Flew through MOT, only one advisory on the near side sill! Our intentions when we got her were to restore her (thought we’d get to use her for a year, have some fun, then would need to start pulling her apart!) so getting both rear sills done was always on the agenda anyways. First time on road this morning after sitting outside in the carport at our new house for the past 6-7 months and she drove fine. Soooo chuffed!
So was my birthday yesterday (Yay! Happy birthday to me! lol)
So, got some lovely pressies! And Gayle’s pressies were things I’d been wanting for absolute ages!! Soooo, without further adoo, Mindy’s new additions! (hang on, thought it was my birthday, no Mindy’s!)
1st up, Gayle got me a mx5 shelf bag. This fastens to the studs that normally take the tonnaeu cover. Didn’t even know they made these for them! Awesome bit of kit and gives a nice bit of extra storage.
Next up, OEM windbreaker with built in pocket (again, every bit of extra storage is a bonus!)
Mega happy with these, the wind break makes a huge difference at 60mph and above, and the bag will be excellent for any trips away we do in Mindy
Had her on a nice long drive on Saturday too to St Marys Loch and Megget water. Saw 3 other MX5’s on our travels (2 mk4’s and a mk2) and also stopped on the narrow bit of single track road to allow a 4x4 to come through, only for it to stop alongside us, the woman driving it rolling down here window and with a huge smile saying excitedly “I used to have one of those!!”
Interesting drive, and Mindy drove well apart from said knock noise. It rained going over St Marys loch but kept the hood down as we discovered we were travelling faster than the speed of rain so were staying dry!!! Who said our wee 5’s weren’t fast Then on the road back to Peebles, we hit torrential rain so roof had to go up! She coped well with all weather to be fair, and think folk thought we were either hard as nails or off our heads cruising along in the rain with the top down, smiling ear to ear!
Nice photos Dave - great scenery too👍
Thanks Andrew. Yes, we are totally blessed to live in such a pretty place now, with runs like these on our door step. All the back roads out of the village look like this, 2 mins drive and were on the moors. Absolutely love it and the ideal place to have a wee mx5!
Well, it’s with heavy heart that we sold Mindy tonight. Due to ill health (long covid) we were both finding it really hard to get in and out of Mindy and I have so many joint/muscle pains now because of this bloody virus I knew I would now never be able to do the work on Mindy that I had planned. Absolutely gutted. Gayle is too as we both love that wee car so much (always referring to her as “the bairn” much to the bemusement of family and friends). Its been over a year now since Gayle’s been able to drive her too, something she missed soooo much. I put up her add on Gumtree a couple of days ago, and then on Facewipe market place (first time Ive ever sold anything on there!) and a young lad called Jack came to buy her. His dad used to have a MK1 when he was little and has lots of memories of it so has always wanted one. In his words “its his dream car”. Not the usual kind of lad (I wouldn’t have sold her to just anybody) but seems like a nice genuine lad who has his head screwed on. He plans to really look after her and get everything she needed doing done. He’s even keeping her name. I’ve told him about this great forum so hopefully he’ll join as he’s on just about every mx5 fb group such is his interest in them.
I’m a silly old sod when it comes to cars, I always get too attached, but even Mindy surprised me…1st time I’ve genuinely cried when my car is driving away! Love that wee car, she’s been so much fun. She’s got a new garage to live in, so she’ll be kept cosy and dry.
Want to thank all you guys on here for the banter and advice over the past 3 years, really has been great in here and you made me and Mindy very welcome. I’ll still be hanging around in the shadows, watching all your lovely 5’s in envy!
If you see \Mindy out and about, giver her a wee flash and a wave
A rather sad story but Mindy certainly appears to have gone to a good home.
So very sorry to hear that you have parted with Mindy - that must have been a very difficult decision, and I can imagine just how desperately sad you were to see her driving away.
I also get terribly attached to my cars (my husband will tell you that I am much better at buying them than selling them?!)
I do wish you and Gayle well.
Oh what a shame.
I hope you both make a complete recovery.
All the best.
I’ve enjoyed reading your story over the years and while no fairytale ending for now at least, it’s clear that Mindy brought you both much joy. Best wishes to you both for a speedy recovery.
Hiya, well you’ve certainly had your share of ups and downs my friend! I wish you both well for the future, get well soon and look forward, not backwards🤞 Sounds like your car is going to keep rolling along for many more years, so whilst it’s not easy moving on sometimes, you’ve probably made the right decision. I’ve enjoyed your contributions over the last few years, let’s hope you can keep popping in with the odd post now and again! All the best,
Barrie
Thanks Barrie,
I’ve loved the mx5 lifestyle, the people and the cars, just such a friendly club. Always enjoyed your builds mate, and appreciated all you comments on mine. Gives you the inspiration to carry on and get these cars looking top. Think that lad that bought Mindy will genuinely look after her so yes, keep an eye out for her popping up on here again.
We bought Mindy’s soft top replacement at the weekend after travelling up and down the country looking for a decent one. Not everyones cup of tea but having had a gen 2 in the past, I always liked them. Bought a gen1 MINI Cooper S Convertible. Like Mindy, has bags of character, is mega fun to drive, has a massive following too. Most of all though shes safe and mega easy for us to get in and out of so right choice for us I think in the end, sad as we have been seeing Mindy go. “Poppy” (yup, she’s bright red and black like Mindy was and looks like a poppy lol) has been living up to Mindy’s examples of character and fun so far!
Dave
Nice one Dave! I like mini’s too
hope you’ve found a good one that you can keep and enjoy! Not sure I’ll ever have another 5 TBH? Nigh on twenty years of MX5 ownership for me, think I’ve earned a rest now!
My wife retires (early) at Christmas, she (we) have a very nice, low miles A6 avant S Line and a touring caravan is on the horizon in the new year. Probably enough to keep me busy
Funny thing is, lockdown has given us a different perspective on life? The 5 did hardly any miles in the last two years or so and just sat in the garage. We will ‘share’ the Audi going forward. Mrs B may get a part time job to keep her occupied as for her it will be like falling off a cliff, working average 60+ hour weeks as she does. Something to keep me from doing her head in I think?
Life moves on and we don’t want to be left too far behind.
Good luck in whatever you do.
Barrie
