The car was built in 2016 by the MX5 specialist Paul Roddison from a clean 1.8 2006 MX5 car. This was chosen for the lower weight and that it was in excellent condition.
To this the following were fitted:
• Brand New 2.5 Litre Duratech engine in 2016.
• New Uprated Roddison Fast Road / Track Spec Cams
• New Roddison lightweight full exhaust system with high flow 220 race cat.
• This was remapped and put out 212bhp on the Dyno with 200 lb/ft
Other items that were fitted by Paul at his workshop were:
• New engine mounts
• New Stage 1 Clutch
• Then from a low Mileage 2.0 Sport the following running gear items were checked and installed. 6 Speed Manual Gearbox, Propshaft, LSD driveshaft’s, front and rear sub frames and all running gear from engine rearwards.
• Brand new MeisterR CRD 32-stage adjustment. (Used on the race cars).
• Brand new Rota Force alloys very light ( again used on the race cars)
• Tyres are current Nankang NS2R’s and have a set of part worn MRF tyres which will come with the car.
• All the hoses were replaced with new items
• New oils and fluids all round.
• Interior has had Cobra Suzuka Pro seat for the driver and matching Cobra Monaco Pro for the passenger. New 5 point TRS harness professionally fitted to both seats.
• New Sparco 300 mm Race steering wheel and matching boss
In 2018 a decision was made to rebuild the engine in preparation for throttle bodies and 300bhp. As a precaution we also fitted new liners, to match a set of Omega pistons, New crank, new Oil pump and all new race spec bearings and gaskets. In additional an Mocal 15 row Oil cooler was fitted to keep temps down and increase the oil capacity. The engine was finally completed in September 2018 since then the car has been run in remapped and showed 220bhp at 7,000 and 205 lb/ft of torque on the Autotronix Developments Dyno. The engine is safe to 8500rpm so in the low state of tune should be bulletproof.
In summary the car is now a bullet proof 220bhp car that weighs in at just over the tonne. It handles fantastic and in the right hands can embarrass much more exotic machinery. The body work has been checked and all the panels have had the paint corrected and are excellent condition certainly not the normal track day condition car. The hood is fully watertight and is in great condition. There are a few spares disc pads etc which will come with the car if the price is right. It drives really well on the road and is fully usable as a road car. The car has had less than 7,000 miles since the rebuild in 2016, and the engine has just been run in.
The car is currently SORNed due to a new project taking over so is up for sale. The car is MOT until Sept 2019 but I will put a year MOT on the car for the buyer and any inspection is welcome.
