Yes, I agree. But what a beauty. Perhaps the most beautiful car ever, after the E-Type.
A retromod MGA body with mk2.5 MX-5 engine, gearbox and running gear would be quite something. Perhaps when I win the lottery.
(Note to self: start doing the lottery)
Something of a first review (in Chinese).
The rear deck has some interesting panels at play. I think a seperate panel for access to the motor.
Iāll take the rubbish car, though preferably a roadster with steel wheels, over anything electric anyday please
The more I see the MG the more I like the styling. The hood mechanism with the infill pieces at the sides looks very impressive. But it does look a bit bulky particularly on the back end and at the end of the day I still canāt get excited about electric cars.
There is (very noisy) footage of this car being 4-wheeled drifted
I think that is just ādriftingā, but I can smell that refreshing smell of burning rubber though.
Mmmmmmm gorgeous smell only beaten by Castrol R.
Well I hope itās better than the Porsche Taycan that pitched up in my drive yesterday afternoon. I didnāt hear it coming of course.
It weighs around 2 tons and has a range of around 200 miles. My friend says heās not supposed to charge it more than 80% or it trashes the batteries.
It has loud speakers to make a noise as it accelerates itās 2-tons to 60mph in 3 seconds. Wonder how much energy that uses?
The driver admitted that it was āa toyā only made viable by massive taxpayer handouts, 95% of which couldnāt afford to buy it. As a staunch socialist he found this ātroublesomeā.
He parked it next to the wifeās 10-plate i10, which looks like a shopping trolley and which she refuses to part with. After he had whooshed off down the road she remarked that, to go and see our new grandson in Northumberland, we would have to use the i10 rather than the Taycan, if we actually wanted to get there.
Sheās so old fashioned.
And not let it get below 20%. Might be out with the figures but to stop the batteries capacity dropping too quickly they shouldnāt be fully charged or fully discharged. So the theoretical range is a pie in the sky figure.
Since May 2022, the plug in grant of £1500 on cars more than £32,000 was axed.
I donāt think it was ever the case that a Ā£150k Taycan was only made financially viable by a Ā£1500 grant, a mere 1% off.
Probably 90% of the population could not buy a basic petrol new MX5. Which is why PCP is offered.
And charging to that 80% takes 20 minutes. Have a cup of coffee and break after a 3-4 hour drive.
I may be way off base here, but Iām starting to get the impression that not everyone is 100% on board with this EV thing.
Nevahhā¦really?
The car is a business cost.
āAs the car purchased for your company on the PCP scheme is likely to be brand-new, if this emits up to 75g/km or is powered by an electric engine, you will be able to claim 100% of the deposit paid for the car .ā
From April 2021 a first-year capital allowance of 100% of the cost can be claimed on all new and unused cars with zero emissions. This means the company can set the full cost against its taxable profits in the year of purchase, creating a saving of 19% corporation tax.
Every little bit helps.
Does the battery charge control use 20% minimum and 80% maximum as the default settings for normal use, with an over-ride to allow 100% maximum and say 5% minimum charge in exceptional circumstances? If it doesnāt drivers will charge to 100% every time and possibly run down to nearly 0% to compensate for ārange anxietyā, in which case they will wreck their batteries in no time. It would be interesting to know.
I would guess different manufacturers will have different recommendations. Pretty sure most quote a maximum charge of around 80% to preserve battery life. Iām sure owners that care for their cars will do this but probably charge to 100% when they have a long run to do.
However for those that lease or PCP a car with the intention of only keeping it three years will they care? Charge to 100% every time and it will still be good three years later. The second owners will be the ones that suffer.
What happened to RX8s. Many were run as company cars, and drivers never bothered to top up the oil. Mazda sucked up the bill for a new engine.,
Wait, your friend used the car as a toy but told you he claimed it as a business expense. So why isnāt this fraud being reported? And this fraudster was a āstaunch socialistā? Name and shame.
Just add him to the thousands of people who purchased plug in semi hybrids, got their Gov rebate dosh, then ran them on petrol and left the connection equipment in the boot.
Tell us what the difference is as we fill our Self Righteous Courts .
Give people an inchā¦they take a mile.
I would.
Unless they ban and crush all the petrol cars and switch the whole industry totally to electric, then Iām staying with E5.
In my opinionā¦ā¦ people will recharge when not at the correct level and this is what shortens the battery life even more.
Just like iPhones, that only charge to 80% of their battery capacity, even if you follow the charging instructions to the letter for a couple of years.
In the end, itās all about making money and thatās what keeps industries afloat.
I have had several washing machines and dishwashers over the years, which have their main ābrainā fail and it is economical to buy a new appliance than repair a 5-7 year old one.
Money talksā¦
Interesting! Do you mean that iPhones only actually charge to 80% when they read 100%? If so, thatās good!
