Microphone for Induction Noise

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2010 1.8i Miyako NC 3.5
  2. I’m based near: Wales
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Intake Noise

Hello all,

I have a little project in mind which sees a small microphone placed by the air filter box which runs to a microphone pre-amp in the cabin powered by the 12v and ouputting to the AUX port. Then I can adjust the intake sound level with the cabin speakers.

Just a fun little project to see if I can increase the intake noise without drilling the airbox, fitting a CAI etc.

I was planning on running the cable through the engine bay into the noise enhancement tube hole in the firewall (my model doesn’t have the enhancement tube) and then into the cabin behind the glovebox.

My current problem is I don’t know how to actually get the wire into the glovebox from the intake noise enhancement tube hole in the firewall. There’s definitely a hole there as I’ve removed the plastic cap with 2 bolts, but unsure how to actually route the cable around the metal plate behind the firewall (when looking at the car from the front of the engine bay).

Any advice on how to route the 3m mic cable is much appreciated, and I’d be happy to share my results if it makes a notable change to the intake noise!

Regards

They have been fitting “Soundaktors” to most of the VW group cars for many years now.
It gives a fake engine/induction noise.

Most people disable the function.

IIRC many of the NC3.5 already had an induction noise tube

Interesting project, sorry I can’t advise on your query.

Think I’d just go Pagini Zonda soundtrack on CD played at full blast on a 1000w amp and speakers

Thanks for the reply. What I’m hoping to accomplish with this project is the ability to EQ or adjust the actual, real noise of the engine using the speaker system rather than just playing a digital file like with a soundaktor.
I’ve also read that the whole induction noise tube isn’t actually that great and seems a pain to fit with so little tutorials regarding installation!
