Milan - good stop off point on the route from London?

We are driving from London to Milan over Easter.

Sadly not in the MX5 - I know, I know, but I have a good reason to take the new VW Touran.

We are booked on a Eurotunnel around midday on Good Friday.

The plan is to stop overnight somewhere en route to Milan, and continue the journey the next day.

If anyone knows a picturesque spot and a nice hotel or guest house on the way please make suggestions.

Thanks

From the south east of France many years ago, we went over the Mont Cenis pass to Northern Italy, and stayed in the little Hotel at the top of the pass, I think it’s called the Mont Cenis Hotel but I’m not sure. Fresh trout at dinner caught in the nearby lake. It’s very beautiful and scenic up there, woke up in the morning by the sound cowbells as they brought them in to milk.  ( PS- we were there in July/August, Check weather, the pass is very high.)

On the way there, We once stayed in the small village of Arc-en-Barrois in a hotel in the villagesquare and by the church. A delightful, typical French village. However It was a long time ago, and things do change, best check.

Have fun, good luck

We did Mulhouse in France when doing it the other way. Loads of hotels there at all price levels.

An update on this one.  We stayed at a lovely Chambre d’ Hote near Macon, a bit off the Autoroute de Soleil

I am sitting at the breakfast table now, in front of a wood fire and digesting some nice crepes and scrambled eggs. Burp.

I would recommend it to anyone - the couple who run it are very helpful and it is a lovely place to stay.
