mirror link connection to phone

Have a mark 3.75 annivserary edition with the Alpine unit

The handbook says  that lt  will connect to my mobile smartphone via mirrorlink

Have a samsung galaxy s3 mini with a drive link app installed

Handbook says to have bluetooth paired and a usb cable connection

Have done all this but the head unit says that there is no apprporaite usb connection

Anyone out there used mirrorlink ?

I wonder whether the functionality is present, there are other issues with that radio not being as advertised.

There are various USB modes on the phone. What is the purpose of the USB link?

I would look into the phone app documentation and support website as first step.

Be aware when it comes to mirror link. A mate of mine fitted a slightly (only slightly!) older sony double din to his 5 (with mirrorlink), but his galaxy s5 is too new for the headunit and the mirrorlink capability fails to work as the HU fails to recognise his phone (Android 5 lollipop). the unit and the phone need to be running the same version of ML to be able to work.
