Got back from a drive in my 1990 mk1 MX5 and the electric windows would not go up. They will however go up and down ( all be it slowly…!!) with just the ignition switched on.
If you start the electric window then start the engine they continue to go up or down. Any one got a solution?
I think he’s saying they won’t go up with the engine running, however if you just have the ignition switch on (but engine not running) they’ll go up slowly…? I think…
Sorry may not have made myself very clear. The windows when working are slow this I know, just haven’t got round to greasing the window runners.
The problem was as it now appears to have cleared it self was that with the engine running the windows would not work, but if you just switched on the ignition they would work o/k.
I had been driving round most of the day with both windows down.
This fault as I say appears to have cured itself so not sure if it was just e senior moment on my behalf…!! Any comments regarding the possible fault are welcome. Many thanks
if it’s the same as on mine , the wipers/heater fan & windows are on the same fuse & sometimes don’t work because the contacts on the ignition key switch need cleaning or maybe replacing. if I “jiggle” the key it makes contact again… sounds daft but that’s how it is good luck
Is the correct answer, I would replace the ignition switch and possibly the actual steering lock and lock barrel and think about having a less heavy key-ring.
