Mk.1 Front Shock Tower Brace

I brought the Okuyyama brace in the UK because it is half the weight of the factory fitted brace, because its is triangulated, incorporates a brake stopper, which greatly improves breaking efficiency without compromising the braking components, and because it looks good. You could likely source it via someone like Sumo Power, with the cost being in the region of £300-350. The shipped price from Rev9 in Japan is about £350. Cost is relative.

Can I ask where in the UK you bought it? Assuming it wasn’t a private sale!!!

I’ve had a look at Sumo, but can’t see it among their products…

The cost from Rev9 is, as you say, about £350, but then there’s the shipping cost, too, which about another £70!

Well, having having done a 400-mile round-trip over the weekend, I’ve been thinking again about fitting a shock tower brace. If it has the effect of reducing vibration, then its a worthwhile addition.

So, I’ve decided I’d like to go ahead with it…

At some point…

As, not surprisingly, there’s a small snag…

Because the car has a convoluted snorkel air intake that looks like one of those ancient musical instruments called a serpent. And the wretched thing obstructs the nearside shock tower

So I’ll have to fit a different intake setup…

And having looked into the ones available, they appear excessively costly for no material gains in horsepower…

Now I know the object of this exercise wasn’t more oomph. But, if I’m forking out for an induction kit which I don’t really want just to facilitate the STB that I do, it’d be nice if it had some benefits in its own right!

I think I’m going back to bed!

Either that or just not bother

You could change the bendy air intake tube for a less bendy Mazda one, surely they can’t be expensive from breakers.
